it's nice that she has a new audience.... however, I must say that not one person in the history of pop or rock has made a legendary career by having mature fans.... legends always shock the elders, instead of pandering to them

That’s...completely false.

Elvis, The Beatles, Bowie, The Rolling Stones, MJ, Madonna etc, all caused moral panic and were accused of corrupting the youth.... They didn't start getting more mature audiences until they themselves reached a more mature age and their younger audience got older

And the vast majority of Gaga’s audience who pay for her materials range between late teens to mid thirties. Gaga has been around for ten years, and the people that supported her in the beginning of her career, are now grown adults who are still supporting her because they have income. This site and and the largely young and unemployed users do not represent her entire fan base, but a small faction of it.

Of course, but we are talking about the overall impact of her career choices etc... the newer fans are largely from the older demographic... while this does bring her the financial benefits (Vegas residency), I don't see how this works for Gaga as an innovative revolutionary artist. Personally, I think this will hurt her image in the long run

I’m checking out of this convo. I clearly see this is ending up in one of those irrational “Little Managers” Vegas senseless career choice conversations and I exhausted myself on Tuesday with that. Sorry.mp3, but I can’t

Peace.

That's okay, there are different opinions about different career choices. Hopefully it all works out for Gaga.

REALITY

I love that Gaga's gaining a more diverse audience. Don't get me wrong, I love the LM community, but I also love that she's able to hook in more casual fans and older people. It really shows how diverse she can be.

But this process of aiming at the older more conservative audience started a few years ago, right after ARTPOP. From the point of view of surviving on the scene with a broader audience, it's a smart move... from the point of view of a groundbreaking rebel, not so much

Also around that same time the focuss shifted to pretty much solely Noth American audiences. Gaga´s international promo for Joanne was very limited and she for example hasn´t performed in Europe on a tv show for years. The only thing I noticed managed to reach a bigger audience is the documentary, but for the most part she hasn´t been able to reach a bigger audience. I believe her audience here is getting smaller. You never hear her on the radio and people don´t talk about her. Not hating on the Vegas recidency at all, just hoping they don´t forget about the rest of the world because she has huge fanbases.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

My socially awkward a** wasn't about to chime in from across the room at someone else's conversation  But I was still listening to all their Gaga gossip and what they thought of it.

My socially awkward self would have totally chimed in to that conversation.

My ears are trained to recognize certain keywords, like Gaga or Harry Potter. :toofunny: I would have given them some Gaga education:

And then told them to #BuyARTPOPOniTunes

Spoiler

But I've noticed it at my work, which caters to an older crowd. They all love her now. Its awesome.

I feel like non-conservative old people have always liked her though :laughga: Literally every Gaga concert I've been to there's been a sizable amount of elderly in the audience, getting their life in their seats :selena: (And I think part of that is because Gaga reminds them of some of the artists in the 60's/70's/80's that you don't really see too much in pop music anymore)

But I get what you mean. People of different generations starting to appreciate her more than just a shock pop performer.

And for the people thinking this is a bad thing: no. The fact of the matter is that you need fans of different age groups if you ever want to maintain a legacy or even have a record breaking extended career. You'll see time in and time out teens and kids promoting their favs music on Stan Twitter or wherever and yet they never actually manage to break through and have that cultural impact that other artists experience, and that plays a big role in establishing a legacy in music, particularly pop music. It's actually very important to be able to bridge the space between young and and older (and even elderly) fans. This is impressive and may be very beneficial come the next album era.

It would make little to no sense to do a massive world tour for an Americana based album, especially one which divided a large part of her fan base at the time because of the musical style.
