Meryl Streep Targeted By Posters Claiming 'She Knew' About Harvey Weinstein

Posters featuring a photograph of Meryl Streep next to Harvey Weinstein with the phrase “She Knew” written across the actress’s eyes popped up around Los Angeles on Tuesday.

It remains unclear who put up the posters. Controversial alt-right personality Mike Cernovich posted a statement from the “artists” saying the poster called out “Hollywood hypocrisy.” In the past, the politically outspoken actress has been targeted for criticism by alt-right groups and even President Donald Trump.

The sightings come in the wake of a social media spat between the Oscar winner and Rose McGowan over Streep’s reaction to the Weinstein sexual misconduct allegations.

It's easy to point fingers but none of us were there. I don't know what to believe

Maybe she did know, I feel like she must have at least heard rumours, but there's no way to prove that. What I find interesting is that, a woman is being attacked even when she was one of the earliest to believe the victims and condemn Weinstein when the accusations came out.

What of David O Russell? What of Michael Moore? These men have worked with Weinstein and have not said anything or put out any statement...

Why not call out men like Matt Damon or George Clooney? What of the reports that Matt Damon and Russell Crowe pressured the New York Times to kill their Weinstein exposé in 2004? What of big names like Quentin Tarantino who admitted to knowing and yet not acting?

These men arguably held a lot of power and, with their privilege, had the opportunity to speak out and move things more than many women (individually) would have.

Just seems weird that we are attacking a woman rather than the powerful men who abused their power and the boys club they belonged to who worked to protect the abusers. Powerful men abused their power, fellow men covered it up, why focus on one woman for not speaking out when it's not clear if she even knew? The problem is clearly deeper than Meryl Streep - so why are we using her as a scapegoat?
