RochestrMonstr 3,216
I loved all of MR's performances and how they all looked so different. I hope she continues switching it up like that (This is Gaga we're talking about, so I think we can count on it).
boyerased 2,886
Honestly for me she can’t afford the Bey approach unless she delivers good music. This is kinda the situation Taylor is in right now. Though yes, I agree. TV performances won’t cut it anymore. If she wants to reach a good audience, honestly she needs to have a very good song that is impossible not to become a hit. Something with universal appeal. I feel like streaming and youtube democratized music, and to have a hit the song needs to be catchy or have a viral moment.

Taylor NEEDS to have a massive hit! If she doesn't, then what else is she going to do? Her pop career is all she has. For Gaga, I think the situation is less severe. She has so many other things going on. Not only is she starring in a major movie, but she's able to serve-up diverse musical performances in other Genres. People love her as a performer, not just as a pop star. Gaga can afford to just have moderate hits when it comes to her pop career, because pop music is only part of what she does. Taylor is not in that situation.

Though I feel like Taylor still is in equal footing. She’s more known to make more “quality” songs than Gaga, and she has that huge career before all these pop stuff. She could strip it all back and still be successful, I daresay more than Gaga. She has the strongest non pop background among the pop girls.

She does have something outside of pop music to fall on. I wish she didn't abandon it though. That's one thing I love about Gaga. She continues to delve into different genres of music while still releasing major pop albums. Maybe it's not the safest route to take commercially, but I love what an amazing variety of music comes out of it. When Taylor released 1989, she said she wanted to stop focusing on country so she can focus 100% on pop. ("At a certain point, if you chase two rabbits, you lose them both"). I'm glad she's doing what makes her happy, and i'm glad she's commercially successful. But I loved her older type of music so much more, and hope she'll go back to it at some point. Love Story still makes me cry (it reminds me of a bad young relationship of mine at the time).

Thinking about it though, if she’ll gonna go back to her older sound, it won’t guarantee a repeat of success. There’s a chance country won’t work for her in the future though who knows. I’m pretty sure but her and Gaga are here for the long run.

True, but regardless of success, I still would love to hear her go back to country. Even for just some songs. Her new music is not my cup of tea. During Joanne, she totally ignored Perfect Illusion, at most she attended radio stations to give it a boost, but she delivered no performances at all. She did tons of performances for A-YO and Million Reasons but she didn't travel as much as she used to, ignoring Asian and Australian markets. And then we know we don't have a third single. yeah sorry no

I don't think Gaga is comparable to Beyonce at all, but she actually did perform Million Reasons several times. I don't understand why that part was highlighted. If I want dance pop I'd listen to Lady Gaga, Britney Spears or Katy Perry, not Taylor Swift.
