FfFfFfFF 59,214
My mental image of Ariana has always been stuck somewhere in 2018-2019. I used to associate her with teen aesthetics, radio pop and oversized hoodies. I never quite saw her as an artist in the same way I saw other pop girls, simply because she felt too teen-oriented to me. That perception slowly changed over the years, and especially after petal. For the first time, it made me see Ariana as a tortured artist of sorts. There is hurt in this album, ethereal melodies, for the first time ever I feel like I get Ariana and how sincerely artistic she is. I no longer see her as an Instagram celebrity or the teen pop artist that my younger cousins listen to, but as someone with an artistic vision. Looking at her writing credits, it also very clear she was very involved in crafting it, unlike her earlier albums. Funnily, it seems like the more she is criticized, and the more her public turns on her, the more I like her and the more I get to admire her artistry. I know this is the reverse course compared to most of this userbase, but tell me I am not completely alone.
