Perfume 8,801
So as we all may know, In April 2015 a trailer for the movie ‘The Age Of Adaline’ was released featuring a previously unheard Lana song titled ‘Life is Beautiful’. Stans all around were fluttering with joy at hearing about this and fully expected the track to be featured on the soundtrack that would follow the movies release shortly. We waited, and waited.... and waited. After it ended up not appearing on the soundtrack we prayed and hoped it would show up on Lana’s then upcoming album, Honeymoon. The track list for that came out and yet again; nothing. A full year later in June 2016 someone asked her about that song when she made a stop in Warsaw, Poland for a show. She promptly responded with “It was only for the movie” but Lana was lying! (she tends to a lot believe it or not). Through extensive research I and other fans have found out that Life is Beautiful was NOT intended for Age of Adaline! In an interview from 2012, she mentions having just written the song calling it “Life is Still Beautiful” and saying she saw a movie concept that worked perfectly with the idea the song portrayed (a man and his best friend finding each other) and she let them use the song for the movie, she had already seen scenes from the movie that had the song in it by the time of the interview. (check description for time stamps of where she talks about LIB) This would be very very unlikely for it to be AOA since the movie had not been filmed in 2012, yet. The plotline of the film also does not follow the idea of a man finding his best friend and them running away with each other. Evidently, things didn’t work out and the movie didn’t feature the song or wasn’t released (we have no idea of what the movie was titled) and the song went in movie soundtrack limbo, until it was picked up for the AOA trailer. Possibly our only way of ever hearing it, and now it’s in the rights of LionsGate. Meaning Lana couldn’t release it even if she wanted to! (They’d have to buy the rights back) And there’s the true story of Life Is (Still) Beautiful. (Also the song is 3:26 in length! Found by the songs registration on PPL Repertoire) What do you think of this more upsetting reality of the song? an angel held me like a child

Matangi 3,050
she could still use a song she had written years previously for a movie that it suited later on... that doesn't mean it was a lie, it just means that is where she chose to use the song? Sneaky Oliver 22,067
I hate this I think the rights should always belong to te artists even if they can’t sell the song but they should be able to post it online for free or sing it in concert sorry if I’m too naive

If a company buys the rights to a song, then they (the management) can’t do sh*t with it and the artist posting it online for free can get them in a lot of trouble an angel held me like a child
