Rollercoaster 2
Yoü and I is much better than EOG, and solely on directorial skills MTN is great. Though I do agree she could do great with extra guidance. Co-directing isn't a bad idea. You & I is my favourite video since Telephone, but it has the same camera mistakes as TEOG in that when it is a sweeping movement, the camera overshoots and backtracks. In some places it cuts her head off before refocusing. If she was in charge of the video then she should have chosen cleaner shots. She should be cowriter of the video script, ideas girl, but that's it.
Sexxx 5,623
I think Gaga feels that everything she does should be from her heart, which is why she can't take a backseat in some respects. I think Jonas understands that completely, so they have the ability to make something very beautiful and creative.

Tommy Monster 846
Why do you all think that the new video must be a continuation of trilogy, when jonas is directing??? I think that this is gonna be something new... and she wouldn´t make her lead single a conclusion to a trilogy... She can make it with second single, but she has to start in big :) That´s my oppinion ;)

Paparazzi and Telephone are two of her most known and talked about videos!

I´m just saying that I think that lead single should stand alone, without any conections, like a closed chapter... But that´s just how I feel it ;)
Squidward T 2,216
I'm hoping a weird ass video like Paparazzi and Bad Romance and Alejandro, basically all TFM videos.

In some places it cuts her head off before refocusing. If she was in charge of the video then she should have chosen cleaner shots. She should be cowriter of the video script, ideas girl, but that's it. Well, it's possible the cleaner takes had other issues (dancing or performing wasn't as good, the lighting wasn't as sharp and beautiful, etc.) This is an aspect of the filmmaking process a lot of people don't really consider. They think if they stumble on a continuity error or see that a shot is slightly out of focus that they've got a better eye than the director and found something he or she missed. Which is possible, but very often definitely not the case. I've sat in editing rooms with editors and directors and had lengthy discussions about whether or not a continuity error or jerky camera movement was worth keeping because other aspects of the take were better. Filmmaking is collaborative, and its pretty much impossible to ensure everybody stays consistent every take. So, you take what you get and do your best from there. Now, that doesn't outright excuse it--and indeed, I think TEOG is pretty poor. But that's because the mistakes are hard to ignore in this video--the poor compositions and framing aren't subtle or quick, but very noticeable and seeing as how there's so little going on in general, they become even more distinct. But I think the issue is pretty negligible in Y&I, Judas (another Haus directed clip--which I actually think is a bit meh, but for reasons other than technical), and definitely MTN, which, again, demonstrates a pretty clear grasp of different forms of montage, and certainly contains many, many strikingly framed compositions. You and I has the mixtake in the dance scenes with the teal hair. They should've been re-shot. These videos are, on average, 7 minutes in length. There's really not too much to lose by reshooting. It REALLY shows that MTN had an actual artistic director. It's easily the music video this era that has the best composition.

I think her and Knight's work on BTW is pretty spectacular as well (actually, some of the visuals in that opening are downright visionary), but, yeah, Khondji is an immensely talented DP (worked with the likes of David Fincher, Wong Kar-wai, Woody Allen, Jean-Pierre Jeunet...seriously, his resume is pretty staggering), and their work together really shines.
