If you’re going to let someone’s opinion on the internet make you feel worthless, you need to check yourself. This is such a childish response. The OP does not have to feel accountable for making you feel worthless because they posted an opinion on the internet :emma:

I’m sorry for what you went through, but you can’t throw **** like that around

I feel worthless on the regular (not because somebody said something dumb to me on the internet, I feel worthless because I have severe clinical depression, let's get that straight), I pointed out that it made me feel HELPLESS because people are willing to glance over the severity of things like this just because "they didn't know any better". This is not an unpopular or uncommon opinion to have and it actively contributes to why sexual assault survivors don't want to come forward about the things they experienced. Instead of listening to people's stories and showing compassion, people jump straight to gaslighting, make up random "what if" situations in their head that try to normalize this kind of behavior and which totally discredits somebody else's actual real life experience in order to win a pretend-argument.

Sexual assault is not normal. Doing drugs is not a justification for sexually assaulting somebody. Being a minor is not a justification for sexually assaulting somebody. Mental illness is not a justification for sexually assaulting somebody. Being all of those things does not take away from the accountability.

If you feel "different" after learning that an abuser has struggled in their life or been a minor at the time the crime was comitted, you are matter of fact trying to find an excuse their behavior.

I don't appreciate my words being twisted around.
