Trepadation 5,566
Call me by your name is a book and movie about a 17-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man and their relationship. I haven't seen the movie yet nor read the book. I want to know if their relationship is weird or not (since the ages). Trailer: Description: "It's the summer of 1983, and precocious 17-year-old Elio Perlman is spending the days with his family at their 17th-century villa in Lombardy, Italy. He soon meets Oliver, a handsome doctoral student who's working as an intern for Elio's father. Amid the sun-drenched splendor of their surroundings, Elio and Oliver discover the heady beauty of awakening desire over the course of a summer that will alter their lives forever." EDIT: How do you feel about young gays sleeping with old(er) men?

shmal96 2,928
Well, 24 years isn't that old (its' not like its a 35+ year old man). This is in Italy so idk what the age of consent is (but typically in Europe I'm pretty sure it's like 15+) so if that's the case then there's nothing wrong about it. Now if he's acting creepy and trying to pressure the 17 year old into doing things he doesn't necessarily want to, then that is not okay (and wouldn't be okay if the guy was 17 or 25)

FRANK1991 3,329
not related to if the relationship is weird or not, the movie got amazing reviews so I'm excited to see it from Wikipedia: After its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Call Me by Your Name was met with critical acclaim. It received a ten-minute standing ovation at its New York Film Festival screening. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 98% based on 90 reviews, with an average rating of 9.1/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Call Me by Your Name offers a melancholy, powerfully affecting portrait of first love, empathetically acted by Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer." On Metacritic, the film has an average weighted score of 95 out of 100, based on 16 critics, signifying "universal acclaim". Poissonche 12,365
HAHAHA I find this funny, I'm 17 myself and went on two dates with a 23 year-old guy recently. Ok, he thought I was 18 at first and I'm kind of almost 18, so it's not the exact same thing as this movie, but still. I was a bit weirded out before the first date, but it was not weird in the end. I don't think you can call it problematic.

Swan Heart 7,382
The book is possibly one of the most beautiful things I've ever read actually. And from what I've heard, the movie doesn't fall short even a bit. The whole argument about the age difference is is quite ridiculous as well. 7 years isn't that much, especially within the gay community. 2 minutes ago, shmal96 said: Well, 24 years isn't that old (its' not like its a 35+ year old man). And, no, that is not the case at all. They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.
