A sensible comment about ARTPOP

ARTPOP was being just trashed by everyone a couple years ago. Now people's tune are much different. Give it 10 years and it will be considered a masterpiece. While ARTPOP definitely didn't turn out as intended, it is a very misunderstood album. People think it's an album of gaga bragging, but it's quite the opposite. ARTPOP has a theme of being a fallen princess, trapped in other people's minds.

but... the album truly isn't all that? it has some of her best tracks ever but it's an unifnished and poorly executed excuse of an album. don't act delusional and try it, no one will talk about ARTPOP in the future because it sounded dated when it  got released lmao

Then you're not getting the album at all.

this is the state of grace, this is the worthwhile fight

I'd have to argue the opposite. ARTPOP could possibly be Gaga's most timeless album to date. There has never been a point in time that ARTPOP could ever really fit in. It's one its own.

tbh ARTPOP is a good pop album and we should see it as that and only that. Yes there were some good artistic moments but having a whole era dedicated to putting art before pop just didn't happen unfortunately

it was not her intention to put art before pop and in fact she didn't. She merged them in something beautiful. :queenga:

Fair enough, I recall her saying she wanted to put art into the forefront but I'm probably wrong. Aside from Jeff Koons album artwork and her personal work with Marina I don't think her ideas of ARTPOP fully flourished and I don't think she merged them how she initially wanted to but that's just my opinion

LastNight

I love ARTPOP, it's a great album with some really killer songs on there. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by everything that went on around it, but the music itself is not bad at all; it's a big, bright, brash pop record which is a lot of fun to listen to.

It's such a shame how management, the media, sales etc. tarnished the album. I totally get it's not to some people's liking and that there are those who just straight up don't like it, but the bad reputation it has now is definitely disproportionate to the actual quality of the music. I wouldn't call it her 'masterpiece' but the music is far from the disaster some people make it out to be.

The ARTPOP era is fascinating to look back on. I think there will definitely be some interesting commentary and think pieces about it in the decades to come. Even if it wasn't the era it was supposed to be in terms of its success and that it never fully realised its potential, I would say that it's one of the most significant moments for her so far. It marked a turning point; there is a very definite sense of a pre-ARTPOP and post-ARTPOP Gaga when looking at her career as a whole. Now it feels like it was almost necessary for her to go through it in order to get to the place she is currently in. Gaga is on fire and I think is proving herself to be a legitimate legend with staying power; the moves she and her team made after ARTPOP were genius and make the actual era itself even more interesting to look back on.

There's almost a kind of sub-culture around the album now. Maybe that's not the best way to say it but it's surrounded by all these myths and misunderstandings: ACT 2, all the songs she recorded that never made the cut, the long and exhausting pre-album era, the injury, the single switches, the endless hype, the management issue. It really is very interesting to think about now.
