Third & last update: "Lady Gaga wants to be seen as an individual, unique artist that is different from other artists, so does Québec want to be seen as a unique province that is different from the rest of Canada. We have the most distinct culture in comparison to the rest of Anglo North America. When you attend a Lady Gaga concert, you wanna see a special singer that cannot be put under a category like "New York pop", so does Québec want to be special and not be (solely) put under the Canadian flag as the Canadian flag symbolizes Anglo-Canadian English dominance which is detrimental to Québecs francophone culture. This does not mean that the Canadian flag should not be shown at all in Montréal, however it is a reality  the Canadian flag is much more appreciated in Anglo-Canadian cities like Vancouver or Toronto. Instead it would be much better to show at least both flags (Québec and Canadian flag) or give preference and priority to the Québec flag with also a French message having priority or bieng bilingul. Please consider this."

First Upate: (the second Update is below this by the way)

I found my inner peace. I just tell myself that Lady Gaga showed this version of the flag while she was in Montréal. I look at it and pretend that Lady Gaga did not show the terrible Canadian flag. Furthermore, this version is very good because it is bilingual. It supports Québécois culture and also is written in English, too. It is bilingual and the best version. It is good for everyone who is upset. I'm feeling now less insulted as I'm starting to get happy with the new reality. It is my own fan version that I gave to Lady Gaga in my reality, I hope that you like it, can you see it? Yes, that's wonderful, we have to show respect for both sides:

SECOND UPDATE:  Last year I made a thread in Conversation Area and asked which are the Top 5 most important English-speaking cities in the entire world (link is inserted blow, it can only be clicked by logged-in members as Conversation Area is restricted). I was shocked to find out that one user ranked Montréal as the 5th most influential Anglo city and another user re-confirmed his placement. For both of them Montréal was an English city, they gave not a single thought about Montréal's real linguistic landscape. For them Montréal was as English as New York or London. And they are not a minority. Every week I experience that people come to Montréal with the expectation that it is as English as Vancouver, Boston or Dublin, we even have to justify ourselves when they ask us "Why do you speak French?" - Some don't have a clue that Montréal is NOT an English city. And WHY do they believe that? It's because people all around the globe portray Montréal as anglophone. Lady Gaga as a very famous person has a moral duty and a responsibility. If someone as famous as her displays the Anglo-Canada flag, she creates the impression that Montréal is as English as Toronto or Vancouver, and this is very hurtful to our feelings because people start to believe and internalize the impression that Montréal is English. Then it is no surprise that users on Gagadaily.com rank Montréal as the 5th most influential English-speaking city. If Lady Gaga however had shown the Québécois flag, which is most representative of Montréal, with a French slogan - or at least a bilingual message - she would have helped to spread Montréal's true identity and avoid misinterpretations of Montréal being English. She would have helped Montréal to show its real side and help to correctly portray it in the world. Unfortunately, she did not. The Anglo-Canada flag goes around the world and people put Montréal in the same category as Boston or Philadelphia or Ottawa. We do not have very famous singers in Québec that could help us to portray our culture, therefore any action by Lady Gaga and any visual message about our province is very important and has huge consequences in the perceptions of our province. We want to protect our culture and not fade away in the anglophone ocean, Lady Gaga herself wrote: "And I want you to love me for who I am" - we want to be loved for our francophone culture!

Unaltered Original content here:

Hello,

I saw this flag and I feel deeply offended by it.

Lady Gaga often talks about respect but she shows absolutely no respect for Montréal's culture. We're being invaded by anglophone culture and last decade the share of Francophone speakers dropped below 50% in the urban agglomeration of Montréal.

We are in a daily fight for our francophone culture which is slowly disappearing, each year you hear less French being spoken in Montréal. Each year more and more stores use excessively English... Lady Gaga should have displayed her message in French, or at least bilingual. Also, we do not feel represented by the Canadian flag. We prefer our beautiful Drapeau du Québec flag, our fleurdelisé, the true marker of our oppressed nation, which represents our culture best. Lady Gaga can show the anglo flag in her concerts in Toronto or Vancouver, but certainly not here in Montréal. With this message she hurts our right of self-determination.

With Lady Gaga's explicit pro-globalist attitude, Montréal will soon by like any other American or Canadian city and drown in the anglophone ocean, we do not want that. We don't wanna be a soulless American-type city like the rest of North America is. We respect that the rest of North America has chosen to live in English only but we also want that we are respected in our right to live in French and that English receives no more additional support than necessary here (because it is infiltrating our endangered linguistic landscape).   What do you think?

I'm looking gorgeous tonight

Hello.

I saw this post and I am deeply offended by this.

Why?

Because Lady Gaga displayed a flag that was handed to her by a fan, and you chose to make a thread about something you bothered to do no research on, pretending that she herself made the flag.

With this message, you neglected to promote online kindness and use the power of the internet.

It's a concert and she's holding a flag a fan gave her. I don't think Gaga holding a flag in English would affect Montreal's usage of French. That's sth that only concerns people who live there and what they really want.:poot:
