**"Baby, why do we love each other?"
I said, "Honey, it's simple
It's the way that you love and treat your mother."**

Like it’s not the EXACT same but it’s in the same vein that you criticize Taylor :toofunny: I’m not a “swiftie” either.

Even though I don't think it's quite the same, touche even so. I think the Gaga line is different because she's implying something different. Just my interpretation, but I think she could be referring to the love, support and respect that men have for their mothers should be applied just as highly to their girlfriends and wives. The sad fact is that a lot of men will happily respect their mother but take their partner for granted and mistreat her. Gaga's asking for their partners to be treated with the same reverence that mothers have. My interpretation of this line is partly why I love it so much. Also, she doesn't mention anything about sex right before it whereas Taylor talks about "making forts out of covers" right before it, she actually rhymes "covers" with "brother." She obviously couldn't think of any other word that would rhyme, so she shoehorned in a really clumsy line that had a dodgy interpretation especially as it followed a line about sex. As if she couldn't have made a line that ended in "other." Rhyming lover, cover and brother together was mega cringe. Major songwriting talent, my ass. But yeah, even though I don't agree, touche on calling me out even so.

I agree and I really don’t think Taylor is THAT talented as a songwriter as everyone who defends her says (she can write a catchy lyric but those don’t have lasting impact).

I just worked out that she could have easily said, instead of "trust him like a brother," written "trust him like no other." I'm just a beginning songwriter and even I freestyled that one. So, my new theory is that maybe she had a line like that but then thought it sounded too generic, a line that must have been said in 100 other songs before, so she wanted something a bit different from the standard rhyming word that everyone thought she'd say. The result was that she ended up saying something that sounds super creepy. Not much of a trade off.

I wonder what her parameters are for this, exactly. Don't get me wrong, I adore Taylor, but her lyrics have been atrocious since Ready For It with the exception of the Gorgeous pre-chorus.

I agree, she can't really think anything she makes is ahead of the game, right? She must realise she makes very pedestrian music. The Gorgeous pre-chorus is the only part I like as well, it sounds like something Lana would write, but coming from Taylor, it just sounds a bit try hard and overly dramatic, given the song's cute and casual approach. She's still got huge issues with sounding like a teenager who's just written her first song. Blank Space was probably her lyrical peak but outwith that, there's not much that I can cite as a huge, mature leap forward in her lyrics. Rhyming lover, covers and brother is a real sorry affair. I always think that rhyming line after line is a big risk as it can so easily sound bad, almost like a limerick, so just stick to 2 lines to be safe.
