Lana Retiring 'Cola' From Repertoire After Harvey Weinstein Controversy

Lana in her most recent interview with MTV at Tyler The Creators music festival has confirmed she will be retiring her fan favourite song 'Cola' after the recent event with Harvey Weinstein.

The song's lyrics contain the line "Harvey's in the sky with diamonds and he's making me crazy". The song also alludes to a romantic relationship between a starlet and a older man.

When talking about the song Lana said:

"When I wrote that song, I suppose I had a Harvey Weinstein'/Harry Winston-type of character in mind.

"I envisioned, like, a benevolent, diamond-bestowing-upon-starlets visual, like a Citizen Kane or something. I'm not really sure. I thought it was funny at the time, and I obviously find it really sad now."

"I support the women who have come forward. I think they're really brave for doing that."

What are your thoughts, I personally am really happy to see how respectful Lana is in retiring the song as I think it is a positive step forward for her however I am sad to see the song now be tarnished with these horrible events as I loved that song.

Sucks I probably won’t hear it live for a long time, also I guess this does confirm she sings Harvey instead of Ah He

Didn't she also say before that she would never perform Ultraviolence again? She did at my show a month ago

It’s one of my all time favourite Lana songs but I completely understand.

She made Cola from a sarcastic viewpoint with the character of Weinstein in mind but now with the victims coming forward so bravely it makes sense to not perform it anymore.

I think she said that she wouldn't sing that one line from Ultraviolence: "he hit me and it felt like a kiss".

She should perform it still. The message doesn't change, there is yet another layer added to the enigma that is Fame that so many artists make their art from.

So grateful I've heard her perform it twice now. I understand her decision but still such a loss. It's an excellent song.
