The point is there was no outrage, no one was really upset and the reactions are different depending on the country, check this

If this same news was about ME country, the comments would be very different. 

Also I kinda doubt that people who are mocking them actually care about their women. 

 

 

Let me give you another example, 

go through the threads about police brutality in Spain/Catalonia and then threads about police brutality in Turkey, the same members react in very different way.

Saudi Arabia finally has a King that is gradually giving women more rights.

 

He also wants them to take a more active role in work force and hes the one that passed the law to let them drive

 

This King also started the “Vision 2030” for Saudi Arabia to reduce dependance on oil for its economy and also increase renewables

 

A society cant change overnight. But this is the first time that Country has such a forward thinking leader. 

 

We should be cheering them on on for their progress rather than saying “u still suck”  

We actually thought this king would reverse most decisions that Abdullah made. Abdullah is on the more "progressive" side of the spectrum while Salman....isn't. Most of this is coming from the crown prince (deputy crown prince until he was bumped to crown prince a few months back). Vision 2030 is everywhere  Every single place I turn I see something related (hell even in my Qudarat (Saudi SATs) prep book 2030 is plastered on it)

We have some great places so some try to detour here on ME trips, but we're still catching up so hopefully we'll have our **** together sooner rather than later.

I don't really rely on many sources here since most are just completely anti Iran, but from what I've heard, the social situation there is better (might be wrong though so correct me if I am)

I think it's a matter of degree. In a country of 320 million, there are bound to be things to be outraged over continuously, but something like child brides is a rarity. (especially if you don't include the older teens who get married) Even then, every comment in that thread was one if shock and surprise. 

This situation impacts every female in the country of SA, so that means that millions of females were excluded from an innocent entertainment past time. It seems bizarre to people who have never experienced such a thing...where men and women engage in all areas of life on a daily basis. 

I'm happy to see that progress is being made, but I do feel for the females in that country. I hope they continue to get more freedom and opportunities!

I don't know how it is there, but here men don't see women as human beings who should have the same rights as them. Government is even worse. They let other countries' women into stadiums but when it comes to Iranian women, they say the structure of stadiums isn't appropriate for women's presence, which is ridiculous. They clearly don't want to let women into stadiums and it has nothing to do with the structure.

And the stadium thing is one of the thousand issues women have in Iran. It all comes from the way men look at us, and even the way women look at themselves. Many of them don't believe in equality between men and women.

You didn’t hear about it being a thing yeah, that’s why all the comments in that thread were “wow, I had no idea this is legal” and that’s it, no outrage; but when it’s similar news about non-Western country most people are mocking them and calling them backwards.

Why don't they just let women sit in separate sections? That's still backwards, but at least everyone gets to attend entertainment and sporting events.

What's the rationale for women not attending sporting events in the first place? They can still dress modestly and be with a male chaperone...or whatever it is they have decided is needed for women to be safe.

It's not the only problem. We have Marja', who is a person you choose to follow for learning about religious laws. The opinion of Marja' is very important for both government and people. They think that women shouldn't watch sports because players are half-naked and it's immoral
