tthen 4,621
AOTY: Spoiler Kendrick/DAMN Shitrat/Divide Lorde/Melodrama Bruno/24K Either Joanne or Starboy (Winner is either DAMN or Divide. A possible (but unlikely) Melodrama surprise especially if Starboy is nominated since Joanne would split the pop vote) SOTY: Spoiler Kendrick/Humble Shitrat/Shape Of You MR Logic/1-800-273-8255 Kesha/Praying (Winner: Shitrat/Kendrick/MR all have good chances here) ROTY: Spoiler Kendrick/Humble Shitrat/Shape Of You Despa-kill-me-now That's What I Like Either LWYMMD or MR but LWYMMD has a higher chance here. Green Light could be a surprise nominee (Winner: Kendrick or Shitrat) BNA: Spoiler Alessia SZA Logic Khalid Julia Michaels (Winner: Alessia since she was the favorite last year before not getting a nom. SZA is also likely) Pop Vocal Album: Spoiler Lorde/Melodrama Shitrat/Divide Joanne Kesha/Rainbow Anyone but Kety...if she didn't get anything for Teenage (Endless) Dream/Prism, Wetness isn't getting **** (Winner: Shitrat or Melodrama. Joanne has a slim chance) Pop Solo Performance: Spoiler Shitrat/Shape Of You MR Kesha/Praying Sam Smith/Too Good at Goodbyes Either Demi or one of Lorde's singles (Green Light/Perfect Places) (Winner: Shitrat or MR) Expect SZA and Kendrick to be heavily awarded in the Urban/R&B/Rap categories. Family Affair (Jay Z) could win for Rap/Sung purely because Bey did backing vocals and they adore her. Wouldn't be surprised if Doves In The Wind also gets a nom and wins. FinnishGypsy 921
Realistically? I wouldn't be surprised if Ed Sheeran swept all of the major categories (with the exception of AOTY--I think that'll likely go to DAMN.). But in terms of Sheeran, he is a songwriter, producer, vocalist, plays a million instruments AND has enormous commercial success--he literally checks every box the Grammy committee is looking for (i.e., they can maintain both relevance with the GP and credibility with critics by awarding him). However, I wouldn't be so certain about "Shape of You" being the victor, or even nominee, (unless that's the only song his label submitted); in contrast, "Castle On The Hill" seems like a classic SOTY winner, IMO. Plus, he won SOTY and Best Pop Vocal in 2016 for "Thinking Out Loud," so I really do think he's probably the new Grammy darling. I think "Despacito" will likely win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance; not only did it break a ton of records in terms of sheer success, but award shows are becoming increasingly cognizant of showcasing (and awarding) more ethnic variability in talent following the (well-deserved) Oscar's backlash from a year or two ago, not even to mention the current political climate (which has been marginalizing Hispanics in particular), in concert with the current devastation of Puerto Rico, all of which makes "Despacito" a wise selection. In terms of Gaga, her best chances are probably in securing a nomination for SOTY, and maybe Best Pop Solo Performance. Unfortunately, I'd be pretty surprised if she were to win because of Sheeran (but really hope I'm wrong)! Overall, I think her chances are decent for the two aforementioned categories (both noms and wins). However, I think AOTY is incredibly unlikely for Joanne. Lorde could possibly score SOTY and/or Pop Solo nominations, as could Kesha. Katy and Taylor are both very unlikely to receive any noms, IMO. Oh, and in terms of ROTY, that'll actually probably go to Kendrick Lamar as well ("HUMBLE.").
