Morocco: Gays are trash

RABAT - The Moroccan minister for human rights has said in front of journalists that he feels homosexuals are ''trash'' and then wrote on his Facebook page that ''homosexuality is a crime and is not acceptable within our society''. Marrakesh will on Thursday open a museum dedicated to the homosexual fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.

The ribbon of the museum was cut by Princess Lalla Salma, the princess consort of Morocco. She was present at the inauguration of the initiative alongside Madison Cox, a landscape artist and wife of Pierre Berge, a businessman who died recently and was the life companion of the fashion designer. On the sidelines of a meeting on the issue of torture a few days ago, Mustapha Ramid, a minister tasked with human rights and humanitarian issues, responded to a question from the media on when homosexuality would be decriminalized by saying that ''I do not have time for these issues. In my opinion, homosexuals are trash.'' To better clarify his position, he later wrote the Facebook post. Many letters of condemnation and protest went sent by Moroccan associations, including to government chief Saad Eddine El Othmani and the king.

Not a dig on you guys at all (lowkey in this case I think y’all are right ) but I hate this idea that all homophobic people are secretly gay. Yes there are many out there who repress their emotions and then act out in toxic ways but sometimes people are just hateful towards LGBT folks.

It’s one of those narratives that straight people use to push away the blame on themselves because you know... it’s easier to blame The Gays.

I know, I was just trying to make a hunty joke because everyone gets to make them on this site and I wanted in too  I doubt he even said the gays are trash. It was probably translated and trash was the closest English equivalent. The translation just reminded me of stan twitter and I thought it would be funny to inject some levity into an otherwise sinister statement.

I am moroccan, I am a hunty, I moved countries because living there was hell for a hunty. What this piece of **** has said doesn't shock me at all, the vast majority of moroccans would agree, gays are imprisoned if they're caught btw, but what pisses me off so much is that he is the minister of "human rights". There's no hope for moroccan hunties at all to exist freely, and it breaks my heart so much. It's not fair.
