People try and conflate the two to maintain constant victimhood - any criticism of gay culture is regarded as homophobic and relates back to childhood feelings of insecurity and abandonment. I will repeat: nothing stated in the OP is false. Stating that gay men have, on average, more STDs is not homophobic. It’s actually a fact.
