Economy 52,861
http://www.bnn.ca/trudeau-aims-to-calm-heated-debate-amid-energy-east-fallout-1.878479 Why he really went on a rant so ill highlight the main points. Basically TransCanada Cancelled their plans for “Energy East” which was a super giant pipeline to bring oil to Eastern Canada and extreme Right-Wingers are putting the blame on Trudeau for ruining Oil Industry with taxes and regulations and so he responded with facts which ill summurize in point form (full rant on link above): - Corporations change plans all the time when circumstances change. Opponents are using a Corporate decision as pre-text for pollitical attack - We already approved 2 other major pipelines under construction and TransCanada simply may have decided there isnt enough demand for yet another huge one. - Oil prices dropped and oil sands will grow at a slower rate after 2020. Our Government didnt drop oil prices - Our Government in 2 years approved more pipelines than the Conservative Government was able to do in their 9 year term so dont say we are “anti-energy” - We did not raise Corporate taxes from the 15% rates the Conservatives lowered it to. - The Liberal Government did not change the regulatory approval process it is the same one, “our party” could not have had an impact in that aspect At a later time not mentioned in this rant he also mentioned that if the Carbon Emissions Cap from oil sands set at 100M Megatones has an impact on growth, that still has nothing to do with his Government because it was the Province of Alberta that set that pollution limit not the Federal Government
LaLuna 12,732
Not sure my tiny little brain understands what the whole debate is about. Basically West Canada is pissed that the pipeline project was scrapped because it's going to negatively affect their economy?

No. Basically Conservatives that dont like Trudeau and his Liberals are blaming the cancelled pipeline on Trudeau saying his party is in favour of more taxes and regulation than the previous Conservative Government They are saying Trudeau is at fault for making project now unprofitable But the truth is most factors involved were market forces not anything the Federal Government did Trudeau didnt make any changes to the regulatory process... and most of the tax structure so far in the Country has only seen small changes from the ones the Conservative Government had So Trudeaus impact would be very small on this I think Trudeau did impose a Carbon tax if im not mistaken. But its small, it wouldnt be that huge an impact
Alexandre 88
Tbh, I'm glad the project was cancelled. The pipeline was supposed to go right in the only drinkable water source that we have in my hometown. Some people say it's bad for the economy that they cancelled it, but those people don't realize that, for example, if something were to happen to the pipeline where I live, 22 000 would be cut off from water for god knows how much time...
