Carey had prepared to speak with Morgan and cohost Susanna Reid about her upcoming Christmas mini-tour when news of the shooting broke. Morgan asked Carey about the incident and played footage from the scene, saying she knew the city “very well” after finishing a Vegas residency at Caesar's Palace earlier this year.   

Fans took to Twitter to criticize Morgan’s decision, calling his questions “tasteless” and insisting that Carey should have been briefed about the shooting before going on-air. Others tuned into the interview after it started and were confused as to why the singer was sitting in front of a Christmas tree as she discussed the shooting. Some fans said the show’s producers should have postponed the interview altogether.

He's such a tool bag. I can't stand him and obviously Mariah was there to promote her invention of Christmas and didn't know what all was going on.

She handled herself very well with obviously no warning, this horrific news given to her live.  It's tacky too because she could have friends and family in Vegas and that show didn't care. She was scheduled, they went on with it and decided that was fair.  Someone should've spoken to Mariah off camera with the intent to reschedule this appearance.

I really don't see what the issue is, his questions were pretty plain and while they were obviously sprung on her, its not like she fumbled through it. She did well. Hate piers tho.

I assumed the deal to be that, instead of going to the true news happening, he decided to go forward with an interview that was polar opposite of that going on.  So, it seems a tad tacky. He seems to enjoy that role though.  I found Mariah held herself well even without it being the right time for any celebrity interview.

I was confused when watching it too. I can understand maybe like one question about it. It either cut her segment entirely and discuss the shooting or talk to her about the tour!

Mariah looked rather annoyed too. Like she already said everything she could. It's so awkward. I feel bad for her because it seems like every time she promotes something a tragedy happens or her PR is up in flames
