"Need You Now" was a #2 hit, #1 on the country charts for 5 weeks, and was the #2 on the Billboard year end hot 100. MR can't touch that kind of radio performance. She was also supposed to win the Oscar for TIHTY, but look what happened. Gaga deserves the win! MR is an amazing song, it's been resilient on the charts, and has had perfect exposure, but because I think because it's Gaga, she is already at odds. Still rooting for her though and praying for the best!

bumblebee 2,528
This is the year with the toughest competition in mainstream music in ages. Not to mention that there are some indie acts and less mainstream acts that will appear like dark horses. What warms my hopes about SOTY a little bit is that it's usually the ROTY category that is meant to celebrate successful records; SOTY is more about the songwriting and less about the charts. However, Million Reasons looks so traditional in 2017 it seems a little conservative. And after some basic research into Grammy awarding patterns, we can see that it's the Album of the Year category which has a traditional/conservative/indie/anti-trendy stronghold. In the last 10 years, the winners of the Album of the Year were: Adele (twice), Beck, Daft Punk, Mumford & Sons, Arcade Fire, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Herbie Hancock and Dixie Chicks. Daft Punk make electronic music, indeed, but Random Access Memories was a heavily nostalgic and in some ways an old school and vintage piece. Taylor Swift also won the award twice, and once with a pop record 1989, but it's silly to deny she has a large country voting base in the Academy. Song of The Year category, on the other hand, has been rather modern and very focused on hit songs: Adele (twice), Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Lorde, Fun, Lady Antebellum, Beyoncé, Coldplay, Amy Winehouse, Dixie Chicks. Which makes us conclude that, when it comes to picking the winner, the conservative voters play a significant part when choosing Album of The Year, while in Song and Record of the Year their influence is lower. I am praying that your assumption is right and that Million Reasons will unite American pop, country and british lobby in the Academy

But due to her record-breaking sales and being a Grammy favourite, LWYMMD might sneak in a ROTY nomination like WANEGBT
