I wouldn't have believed it in 2013 It is worrying, but since there are so many people who wish to vote for AfD, AfD must be represented; just silencing them and pretending they don't exist isn't very democratic. Looking at the numbers they might actually do that because the two biggest parties (CDU/CSU and SDP) are losing seats and if this continues, then it's only a question of time until they become the biggest party. The scariest thing about that is that their voters are just like Trump supporters - they don't think rationally and they don't listen to facts. This is indeed a historical election here in Germany, because it is the first time sine 1949 - or shall I better say since the foundation of the Federal Republic of Gernany - that an alt-right, neo-Fascist party like the horrible AfD (Alternative für Deutschland) gets elected into the German parliament. With around 13 % of the votes! The governing CDU, CSU as well as the SPD - all have tremendous losses. In fact, these three parties will achieve their worst results since 1949. They have this whole nationalist thing going on and they always say that immigrants are trying to turn Germany into an Islamic country ( ). They're also very anti-refugees and anti-marriage equality. No way the AfD will manage to get more than 20% of the vote... let's also remember that 2015 refugee crisis is still fresh in the memory, and that there will inevitably be infighting between actual nazi's and the more 'normal' far-right in the party like earlier this year. What I think Germany needs now is wage growth for lower incomes and more stimulus-orientated policy for better purchasing power and more public investment-led growth. But no way that's going to happen with FDP and CDU/CSU in government. Anyways, I think there's a fair chance that AfD-like parties will be a constant factor in the Bundestag from now on, be it at 7% of votes or 15%.
