It's not completely focused on Diana's death and Diana herself. She talks about death and suicide. Suicide in a swimming pool I'm pretty sure. I haven't yet worked out what the song is all about, but it's not all about Diana.

Maybe its about Lana Blue Jeans video :omg:

The song is offensive. As it should be. Anything that the public doesnt want to hear is offensive.

Celebrities live great lives, until at some point the pressure gets to them, they take d--gs, and end up dead in a bath tub. Its a fate of a lot of them.

Exactly. It's def a controversial song, but it's very very relevant, whether people like it or not.

I was thinking... Why did she decided to throw the song at this point so randomly? What influenced her decision? Probably the label is unsure about including this song, so they asked her to sing it and watch the reactions.

Since other people are posting some of their interpretations of parts of the song, I’ll post mine. The song is about Gaga as a celebrity looking at the tragedy that has befallen other blonde celebrities. She thinks of suicide as an escape from such tragedy. “I wish that I was strong.†She wishes she were strong enough to live by her own accord. “I wish that I was wrong.†She wishes she were wrong about the idea that she could end up dying in the same manner as Diana died.

The song just seems to be asking, “Is the fame worth it? Am I strong enough to live with the fame and die without tragedy? Am I wrong that tragedy must befall all women in my position?†She describes the troubles of being famous, writing from depression to anorexia. She did not need to use Princess Diana’s name, but when you think of tragic women, you have to think of her, especially if you’re an icon like Gaga.

It’s really not all that controversial. Consider the fact that society primes celebrities to feel this way. "We want to watch her cry." We focus on the downfall of celebrities, and by doing so, we make them feel as if they have to try harder to not fall, so they try to become perfect, and that attempt at doing so is harder on some girls than it is on others, and some end up resorting to suicide or at least having suicidal thoughts. Gaga’s in a way just giving her commentary on the situation. That’s how I see it.

I'm thinking she probably wrote this sometime around May last year, I see the royal wedding as a big point of inspiration for this song.

It was written last Fall.

I enjoy the song.

The most interesting part is hearing a superstar sing about being a superstar in this context. I can't think of one of her contemporaries who has written a song about their own death, and about their own desire to commit suicide. That isn't a very "pop" thing to do. And I think it is even more interesting when you factor in all the gay teens who are committing suicide. It is just very interesting and refreshing to hear someone of her status sing like that.

The only part lyrically that kind of impressed me was at the end when she sang "applause". I thought that was great.

I remember writing a short story about killing myself in a swiming pool; I had to for English, before I sound like some freak!

Here's my attempt to transcribe the lyrics:

Leave the coffin open when I go

And leave my pearls and lipstick on, so everybody knows

Pretty will be the photograph I leave

Laying down on famous knives, so everybody sees

Bleach out all the dark

I'll swallow each peroxide shot

Someone, I know, could love and save me from myself

Or maybe I'll just clean the **** off of these fancy shoes

I'll be a Princess Die and die with you

I wish that I was strong

I wish that I was wrong

I wish that I could cope

But I took pills and left a note

I'm hungry from an anorexic heart

I've been trying to tell you how I feel, but was never very smart

I'm wrapped in silks made for Egyptian queens

I'll do it in the swimming pool so everybody sees

Bleach out all the dark

I'll swallow each peroxide shot

Volumes I know will love and save me from my self

Or maybe I'll just clean the **** off of these fancy shoes

I'll be a Princess Die and die with you

Princess Die

I wanna see her cry

Princess Die

Princess Die

We wanna watch her cry

Princess Die

I wish that I was strong

I wish that I was wrong

I wish that I could cope

But I took pills and left a note

And I wish that I would go

In my rich boyfriend's limo

Right after he proposed

With a 16-carat stone wrapped in rose gold

With the paparazzi all swarming 'round

In my Louis Vitton white button-down

Oh, it's not that deep

So bob your head for another dead blonde

Whose real prince is in heaven

She just wants to sleep

The final act of mine

Will be in my own hands to do

I'll be a Princess Die and die with you

Applaud

Boo-hoo
