Hopefully no one will take this case too seriously as a reason to fight against transitioning. The kid was just a kid, the doctors in charge of his process should have know better.

id say 18 or more would be the most reasonable age to decide for younger kids if they want to transition because you have 18 or more years of your life to connect pieces together and see if you're used to casting yourself as a person you want to be represented as and be happy with

It is too early but I'm sure anyone who later in their adult life transitions to the opposite gender would wish they could have done it earlier.

There was a similar case here in Sweden recently. Granted it is very rare that people change their minds and as long as there's no surgery involved its reversable.

In a way I think it's too early, but in another its a good idea to start hormone therapy before puberty so the person doesn't have to deal with how their body transforms to something they hate.

There's another trans woman here who wtote a book: "I Changed My Mind", but she didn't change her opinion of her gender. She was just mad that she had to go through major surgery for society to accept her as a woman. She'd be just as happy living as a woman with all the plumbing intact.

Overall I see more trans people choosing not to go through hormonal treatment and surgery nowadays. Which is great, I think.

Not really, it depends on the case. I hope one day people can truly feel comfortable with their identity without the need to go under surgery or hormonal treatment.

12 years old? I'm sorry, but there should be some kind of age restriction to fully transitioning. It's a huge decision, and irreversible afaik. I understand that people want to be inclusive, and his parents probably had his best interests at heart, but things like this can be avoided with a little bit of time.

Personally I knew that I was a girl since I was 10 and I wish I would have started hormones at 12. It's easy to say kids aren't mature enough to make these decisions when you see how flippant they are with life, but it almost inhumanely excludes those select few who actually know what they're about and understand it isn't a phase. I think this should be done on a case by case basis, and with a year of therapy. At 12 years old I would have agreed to a year of extensive therapy, maybe even two, if I had known I could transition. That being said, MOST people aren't ready to make this kind of decision. But there ARE people who are, and they can NOT be pushed aside. That would mean complete erasure of stealth for some people. Please understand that transitioning for teenagers is a race against puberty, and for some, they may never pass if they reach 20 without hormones. Meanwhile, Kim Petras started hormones at 12 years old and she is indistinguishable from a biological woman. She is now 24 and doesn't regret it one bit.

I don't think raising kids to be genderless is a good idea, one of the many joys of transition is gender roles, at least for me. To be reaffirmed as wholly female and exclusively female is wonderful.

And this shouldn't be taken as complete. I knew since I was 10, tried to convince myself of reincarnation at 12 so I could be born a female (couldn't convince myself), tried to block it out of my mind at 14, finally researched it extensively and learned how to transition at 16, began hormones at 18, and now I'm a few days from being 20 years old and I have no regrets about my transition whatsoever.

It's easy to sit there and talk about how minors can't make these decisions, but when a child is wanting to slit their wrists with scissors because they have to wear a suit, perhaps some medical individualism would be in order.

This has nothing to do with that.
