River 127,476
We are going to see those kind of things very often now, especially in Europe. The immigrants are going to be divided, the old fashion Muslims and the liberal Muslims. One group contains Muslims that didn't succeed, didn't want, or they didn't get the good tools to integrate into the new country and culture and the second group contains the Muslims that succeed and wanted to integrate. It's really a natural thing to happen when a large group of people is moving to a new place. So instead of bashing more Islam, support the liberal one, this is where changes are starting.. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
StrawberryBlond 15,565
Turning against your own is another off-shoot of the problems that face us today. I don't understand what is with this incessant need in some (not all) Muslims to act so outrageously every time they see someone doing something they don't approve of. I don't see Christian women going around telling women to stop wearing bikinis, even if they themselves prefer to remain covered due to their religion. Because religion dictates that you have to be civil and respectful to others and that's it's the decision of the whatever deity you believe in what will happen to you after you die, therefore, it's not our place to judge. While there are Christians who do go on crazy rampages and suchlike, these incidents are very rare. But for Muslims to commit crime against others is very high. And yet, we cannot criticise Islam when this happens, yet we can criticise Christianity for creating psychos who shoot up a black church without anyone batting an eyelid. Every religion has the ability to produce criminals and horrible people. But you cannot deny that the religion that commits the biggest amount of crime is Islam (or at least, those who commit it identify as Muslim even though their religion would not approve of these crimes). The amount of rape carried out by Muslim immigrants is huge because these men have been sexually repressed and have grown up in a society where they believe women are second class citizens and that any uncovered women is a wh*re. Naturally, when faced with the freedom of European culture, they can't handle it and think they're free to do as they please because they're men and men face no consequences for doing what they do in their country. I mean, in some Muslim countries, a virgin woman can get sentenced to death for being raped because she had sex outside of marriage. No wonder men in these countries think they're free to use women as they please. I'm all for helping people escaping war-torn countries but there needs to be limits. Canada have a good system where they only accept families, single women and orphaned children but they don't accept single men. Letting in single men who see women as second class citizens is a recipe for disaster. I say all this as someone who has a degree in religious studies, including Islam, by the way. I'm supportive of Muslims who are genuinely good people and adhere to the law of the country they are in. But in the country I live in, our culture states that women are to be treated with respect and should be given the freedom to do what they like, so in no way do I support the policing of how they should look and act to appease a religion that isn't even native to my country. 5 hours ago, ChicaSkas said: this world we live in is so messed up. All I could think of was this: I've seen this cartoon before as well. I think it sums up the cultural divide perfectly. It just shows that there's two ways of looking at it that are 100% understandable...but can also be refuted. 5 hours ago, ChicaSkas said: The interesting thing is it's kinda anti-male too because it assumes they dominate the choices the women made, when it's mildly possible women could have made these choices for themselves. There's that as well but the thing is, women displaying themselves as overtly sexual is a choice that has been subconsciously inserted into their mind by the male culture. It's men who came up with the idea of dressing women sexually and demanded them to be scantily clad, yet it has been filtered down through society for so long that a lot of women now think that it is their choice that they maks for themselves and for nobody else. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that she shouldn't have the right to do this, but at least be real about why she's doing it. She'd hardly have this desire if she grew up in a culture where covering yourself was seen as the only acceptable form of expression, would she? Similarly, I feel that a lot of Muslim women have been raised on this belief that to cover yourself is a sign that you respect yourself and ensures that you won't be seen as a sex object that many of them seriously believe the burqa is a feminist choice. In reality, this is a myth that has been shoved upon them by society, it was a concept that men came up with to censor and police women and they sold it to them as feminism so that the women wouldn't protest. Either form of dress can be oppressive, basically. All female dress choices were designed by men with the idea of objectifying or policing them, respectively.
