I've always connected those two lines. I think much more likely to call her dad king than the rapist.

She wouldn't call her dad cruel though. She also replaces this line with "some asshole broke me in, wrecked all my innocence". I think she is referring to the same person. Gaga said she was raped by her producer so she is calling him a king because he had power over her. I think she brought her Dad in on the next line because maybe she feels that she put herself in dangerous situations in an attempt to succeed to make her Dad proud.

My mom and I were talking about this part after our show, and my mom was like "I don't think that's a real thing for most people..." and I was like well all family's are different, but yeah I thought a lot about this too.

Maybe we shouldnt take what she is saying 100% literally. Her point is basically that we need to be introspective about our lives and the lives of the people close to us in order to find the source of our pain.

I don't think she's referring to every single bad thing that has happened to her when she speaks of this intergenerational pain. I think she's more referring to the issues within the family unit - her behaviour of rebelling etc may have been in response to the actions of her father, who she described as being very over-protective, strict - these qualities may have derived from his experience of losing his sister at a young age.

These events aren't a direct result of each other, but they are all linked in some way. You can't inherently blame Joanne's deaths for the struggles her and her family has faced, but it may have influenced the choices and behaviour or others down the line.

Maybe it's because I'm studying social work and look at intergenerational trauma in greater detail, but I do get what she's saying.

I do have my own theory on this which her speech kind of backs up.

So we've known for years that she credits Joanne for her own career and artistic abilities, both because she was inspired by her and also because she feels a part of her spirit latched onto her before she was born. She's always said a prayer to Joanne before her shows.

Also, she's spoken about how Joanne's death deeply impacted her family and influenced how they lived their own lives, and even how she herself was raised. Her death changed her father and deeply affected her for a very long time.

She's even said in the past that her career feels like an homage to Joanne, and she feels like she's completing the work that Joanne never got to finish in her own lifetime.

My theory is that this entire era is Gaga really living that storyline out to the fullest. She's completely embodying Joanne, and even asking people to call her by that name and cheer that name at shows etc. I think she decided somewhere along that line that, just for one era, she really wants to commit to this longtime feeling that she needs to continue Joanne's work and legacy. By becoming Joanne she's letting her legacy be known and created, because she never got to do it in her own lifetime.

That's why Gaga hangs up the hat at the end of the show. She performs a whole show as Joanne, to let her spirit free on stage and live her unfinished dreams, and then hangs up the hat as a way to close it all out and say goodbye.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
