Unfortunately a lot of her fans don't seem to care about her need for personal balance, as evidenced by all the constant complaints we've seen about her supposed lack of drive and not working hard enough for some fans taste, or even intimating that her personal relationships arn't chosen with enough marketing potential. Gaga has her priorities correct though. She needs balance so she can provide a lifetime of music and entertainment. Beautifully said. All of this. When I’ve chosen to wear big shoulder pads and avant-garde clothes back when it wasn’t sexy to do it in 2008, I was doing it because I refuse to let anyone around me tell me what is beautiful about a woman or how a woman should be sexy or how women in the music industry should sell their bodies to be sexy. I’ve always done that.” MOUKARBEL: “I always got the feeling that part of her creativity comes from an internal struggle. She has an outsized amount of talent and ambition but also needs to have real human connections to be happy. Those needs can often be at odds because one is usually at the expense of the other. She’s definitely fighting for balance. I like to think of this film as a simple portrait of a truly complex person. She’s put herself in such a position of influence and is really thoughtful and hyper aware of that power. One of my personal takeaways is that there is a lot of power in allowing yourself to be vulnerable.” Her part about the clothes she used to wear struck out to me the most. I'm curious to see why her fashion and visuals and such have taken such a backseat this era. 1 hour ago, TylerBR97 said: The quote honestly explains SO much in regards to Joanne as an album and era Same. 1 hour ago, giskardsb said: What's interesting to me is all that stuff (finding balance between work and personal relationships) has been obvious and a person doesn't have to look much below the surface of Joanne and the era, or even farther back into ARTPOP, in order to discover it. While I agree that some fans don't care much about her personally, and hopefully this doc changes that, however, I'd have to respectfully disagree that it doesn't take much to see why it seems she has less drive. We can only assume why based on pieced together interview snippets, and that never gets us anywhere accurate. In order to understand, she has to flat out say it. And I'm assuming that's what she is doing here.

And I'm assuming that's what she is doing here. Personally I think there are two things going on. 1. Gaga really does need to create space for personal life and recharging, so she isn't going to be running 24/7 in service of her career like she was at the start. She burned out physically and mentally, had drug and alcohol problems, and relationships suffered. She is right to avoid falling back into that state. 2. Gaga still has lots of drive, but it's not necessarily in the direction that fans want. Gaga is expanding her career in other directions and is not intent on putting all her effort into being the top pop Queen. So she gets accused of lack of drive, when really it's that she has focused in other directions. But pop fans can be blind to anything she's doing that doesn't directly effect the pop measurables they are looking for.

And even the peak of her popularity and such, even I thought "how can she keep coming up with this **** forever? She has to run out at some point." She's undeniably a creative person, there's no arguing with that. And I figured she'd burn out at some point. I just think that going from ARTPOP to Joanne was such a drastic change, and with little to no explanation. I think I expect her to vocalize it because when she was running full speed before, it was SHE who constantly talked about how she would always be wearing crazy fashion, doing the videos, the visuals, etc. "I'll never let my fans see me without heels" Unrealistic, totally. But if you voice one thing you should continue to voice as things change.

Hell I was in that position 9 short years ago but it was gaga/monsters who showed me the light. In all honesty she needed us as much as we needed her her and through that need a beautiful bond was born. I think this documentary is her "I wanna show you the darkest sickest parts of me because I love you that much" moment. I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

Eh, I don't think its necessary. Whats needed is for fans to be aware enough of Gaga as a human being, rather than just some pop machine, to understand what she's going through and how her own life changes. After all, all of our lives are not the same as they were 10 years ago. I don't know why fans insist on holding onto things like it's some sort of religious scripture. I mean, does anyone really need her to come out and say " I don't wear heels all the time anymore, because, you know, I broke my hip and heels can stress it." Are we not aware enough of her situation to figure that out?
