Buying Merch (Price)

Why is buying from some artists so expensive? I know that basically you're paying for the brand/artist's name, but some things are a little overpriced.  For example, Lady Gaga's merch is simple with square pictures with a few words, yeah they look pretty, but making something close to it far cheaper. So I doubt I'll buy any merch from Gaga anytime soon unless I see some worth the price.

Spoiler

Just an FYI, I bought some Qveen Herby Merch.

All for $50 USD (Given that it was buy 1 get one 50% off, and a free neckless)

It depends on where you live. I bought an Ariana Grande Dangerous Woman Tour date-back tee from her official website since I am seeing her in concert next week. The shirt was advertised as $40 USD, but since I am Australian it converted to around $50 AUD. On top of that, shipping price was added. Somehow it came to around $20 shipping price which mean't I had to pay $70AUD in total.

I think they're really overpriced tbh. The hoodies I understand as hoodies can be quite expensive regardless. But I think t-shirts should be at least $30 and only $10 shipping. It's especially not fair for fans who perhaps cannot afford paying that much for a t-shirt. I would highly recommend buying merch at the actual show, as you obviously won't need to pay for shipping. I was going to buy more crap off her store however after being charged $70 for a damn t-shirt I am just gonna buy anything else I wanted at the giftshop on the day of the show.

TBH it's expensive for a lot of artists and honestly it ticks me off. I assume it's the result of paying a designer, distributing company, clothing brand and the artist which forces them to hike the price up to selling a kidney level to turn a profit :emma:

Even for artists I didn't consider big, like small rock bands, even one I saw LITERALLY in a barn :toofunny: (no joke but that's another story - You and I realness), their t-shirts were still $30-35. I find it kind of a reach for some of Gaga's website merch like $50 crop tops and whatnot but if people have enough to buy it I've got nothing against them, in fact good for them for being able to shell out cash on stuff like that.

I almost always buy merch because it's a memory from the show for me, but I honestly wasn't entirely impressed with Gaga's website or tour merch this time around. (still bought something because I'm willing to throw coins I barely have at my queen :smh:)The only one I really fell in love with was the Lady Gaga shirt in John Wayne font on her website but never bought it.

Taylor's merch for a shirt of the album cover on a basic white t is $45...$5 more than Gaga's pricing but you have to also include shipping and handling so buying 1 shirt can be more like $65...

RIDICULOUS

I bought the PI workout shirt to get a presale code for JWT because I wanted to get a backstage pass and my total ended up being over $85 with shipping and I was like :grr:

I wear it all the time to make up for the fact that I'm still guilty I almost spent $100 on a long sleeved shirt with PI written on it :selena:

That's why so feel if I'm gonna be spending that much...the design better be AMAZING! All this last basic copy paste on a black or white t is NOT worth it and I haven't bought Gaga merch in years...

First time where I'm proud to be an American.:selena: Not to mention that the merch I bought would have come up to $85, but thank her for sales and free shipping.

Sadly, they know people will buy it, even for that price. It's a business.

I really won't blame the artists, I believe it's the label the decides the price. Like independent CupcakKe's most expensive  merch is 40 USD and Qveen Herby's is 70 USD (includes two t-shirts and frames), meanwhile signed Gaga has 50 USD t-shirts.
