What is he supposed to do anyways? Their speech is constitutionally-protected.

He can't do anything. I wasn't calling for him to do anything because the reason I gave. The KKK have started revamping their communities in the past year. Social change in the Obama admin is what caused them to stay hidden.

Regardless, something has to be done. Otherwise, these GGD will continue to show up and people will continue to die. That's why it's pointless to bring up the ANTIFA. The quicker we handle these groups, the better. And something that everyone should agree with.

People have been destroying property since forever. The Boston Tea Party for example. Football games. Why have we only started caring now? Property can be replaced no matter the cost or hardships. It's sucks and shouldn't happen, but come on. My house has been subjected to vandalism, but I'm not going to equate that to the KKK.

The KKK/white supremacists have a lot more blood on their hands. And God knows how much more they'd have if they continue to revamp there communities in the coming months. 9 KKK rallies are coming up. So let's see what'll happen.

I'm pretty sure people have always cared when extremists destroy property :sharon:

In this thread alone there are people who condone the blowing up Limos that ANTIFA has done because the message it sends is somehow good..

So it's Obama's fault? The KKK and Nazis weren't forming and coming out in public like they are now. They also weren't here only when Obama took office. At his time, social attitudes was what was carrying the silence of these radicals. There was no need for action because what we saw was in influx in social change. But now we should take action. So I don't get why people still need to attack Obama. He can't take on an issue that wasn't an issue during his time. It's Trump's issue now. Direct your anger to him.

A broken car is worse than centuries of oppression and institutions?

There's bad situations on both sides, but again, we're comparing apples to oranges. And they shouldn't be on the same table when talking about real issues.

The ANTIFA is not the reason why the KKK are here. And it's silly to argue about whether or not they have a say to speak or not. They shouldn't. Could you imagine if the KKK rallies started growing from the hundreds to the thousands within the next year? Just because you see it on the TV also doesn't mean they aren't working in their own personal lives to disrupt life.

It's false, the KKK was always active and always protested against Obama and against BLM and pro police brutality against POC during Obama's presidency.

"fault" is a harsh word, no one is putting centuries of racism on his shoulders but he had an opportunity and he didn't take it so this is why people are disappointed, no one is attacking him, he did many other good things, but with this subject he failed, especially when it so close to his heart..

It's not worst, nobody is doing this comparison, not everything needs to be a "comparison debate" especially in this case..

We can all agree that to say the N word is hurting and to destroy a property is hurting too.

Put yourself for a second in both shoes, someone says something racist to you and the day after someone destroys you car.. would the hurtful feeling be the same in both cases?

I didn't say that the ANTIFA is the reason the KKK is here, read again please, I was talking about the left wing in general.

Why are you laughing at this? This is serious stuff.

Anything, no destruction of property has always been a thing. Vandalism has always been a thing. When's the last time Penn State or Vancouver had this much coverage due to destruction of property? Do you remember that?

The point is that is worrisome that people take more anger on people who light up a car instead of the KKK.

Once again,

ANTIFA is a short term goal group. They don't operate like the KKK/Nazis. and I wish people could learn to analyze that. Yes, we should denounce both groups. But let's stop acting as if both have power. The KKK has power and will be denounced by half the population. The ANTIFA don't and will be denounced by almost everyone because many think that destroying a car is worse that institutionalized racism. One is visual and can be blasted on Instagram while the other has been hiding in the shadows for centuries and continues to do real harm.

It's so obvious that we raise our eyes at a burning car instead of white supremacists.

I don't condone vandalism, but I'm certainly not going to equate burning trash cans and cars to lynchings. The KKK is on a whole different level. The history of the KKK and white supremacists includes mass murders going back to the 1800s. There is simply no comparison here.

You made companions to ISIS though.

What's false?

The KKK was NOT as big and vocal as they recently have been. There leaders have EXPLICITLY stated that they have been woken. That's not to say they haven't been around for a long time. That's a given. That said, Obama could not have done something. He literally couldn't because he didn't have the support in Congress. Trump does. Again, this wasn't an issue during Obama's time. Not like it is now. KKK members will ALWAYS be around, but when they start gathering in public by the hundreds, yea, then there's a time. And the fact, again, is that it's a hard debate to have because the KKK technically has their freedom of speech. But we all know their history. So should they get special treatment? That's the debate we should be having. Not equating oppression to a fiery car.

You really think that this is a matter of someone saying ******? THAT's the issue with the KKK? THAT's what racism is about?

We're good..

Crazy how you did a google image search and only came back with one example of a violent protest in France.

No, these groups are not equally reprehensible. No, the left isn't the problem.

We're good..

I didn't compare, I gave them as example, I could use a name of any other group.. the example was a reason why some people are joining a violent group... that sometimes is not for ideology, but only for a reason to be violent and vandal..

There's a big different between a comparison and an example...

No one here is protecting racism or KKK but we are protecting the left wing, our ideology, our image and what the left is all about after all.. like Gaga said #ThisIsNotUs so this is what people here are feeling..

I don't care if the right wing denounce ANTIFA, because they denounce is laughable.. but I as a left wing person, I denounce them.

I used that emote because you seem to make it sound like we've never cared about destruction of property before, which is just false.

Regardless of how ANTIFA operates, I am not comparing them to KKK/Nazi's. This thread is about ANTIFA and their extremism, I'm not sure why you quoted me talking about the KKK and Nazi's, of course I know the meaning behind those groups are worse. ANTIFA's extremism comes from an ideal of creating a better / more equal society, but their methods are exaggerated and downright awful.

I've denounced the actions of white supremacists multiple times, so again not sure why you're quoting me with that.

Benji

People join protests to cause havoc and use them as an excuse to get violent no matter what that side is fighting for, it happens all the time. Just look at how peaceful protests turn into riots etc. It's just what some people do.

You can't use a small group of people to obliterate a good cause... especially when the other side are literal nazis, white supremacists and members of the KKK.

I'm a peaceful person in general but I support punching a nazi. F*ck nazis, disgusting pieces of trash that aren't worth the air they breathe.

That's not really accurate. This was the largest racist hate group gathering in decades. These racist groups were in the shadows and were met with such extreme disdain when they showed their fave that the majority of them kept it hidden. Now, with the support of this President and his administration, they are emboldened to come out for all to see. They don't care if their family, friends, neighbors or workplace know that they are white neo nazis.

These groups have been growing, and having a black President definitely increased the numbers, but there has been a definite shift since Trump became a vocal candidate in the Republican Party and most certainly since he got the nomination and then became the President. With every dog whistle and racist hire that Trump makes, these groups get more oxygen and more momentum.

I think it's pretty obvious that most here don't support violence, everyone would rather have a peaceful solution, however, the KKK, nazis, right-wing extremists in general don't care, they don't care at all, that mindset is their most powerful and dangerous tool, there's no reasoning with them, your kindness won't impress them, rather they will see it as a weakness and try to use it against you.

I don't know the solution, but I think something like antifa helps to balance the playing field, those right wing extremists have to fear SOMETHING or else they will just keep growing and growing, all their dirty, disgusting tactics have been working lately and they won't hold back. The more you equalize both sides as extremists, the more powerful the nazi side become. Point out the wrong things, but don't just put both sides on the same bag, it's just wrong.

What is Violent Extremism?

Violent extremism is defined by the FBI as “encouraging, condoning, justifying, or supporting the commission of a violent act to achieve political, ideological, religious, social, or economic goals.”

New Jersey Department of Homeland Security considers them domestic terrorists :nails:

Oh really? New Jersey, a state run by a Republican governor, labeled a left-wing activist group a domestic terrorist organization? How conventient, especially when the governor is none other than Chris Christie, a Trump crony.
