(CNN) - A café in Melbourne, Australia, is giving its male customers a side of gender equity with their lattes.

At Handsome Her, men are asked to pay an 18% premium to "reflect the gender pay gap." Men earn an average 17.7% more than women for full-time work in Australia, a government report found. The difference is roughly the same in the United States.

Sign reads:

"Handsome Her is a space by women, for women.

House Rules:

Rule #1: Women have priority seating

Rule #2: Men will be charged an 18% premium to reflect the gender pay gap (2016) which is donated to a women's service

Rule #3: Respect goes both ways"

Well it's a great idea to promote the café and filter the type of guests coming there.

The article states many men have gone there and were happy to pay the tax and even donated money.

The Internet is outraged though.

Pretty unnecessary especially considering they don't know the wages/salaries of their male customers vs their female customers.

Shedding light on a real issue but executing it in the worst method possible:emma: Taxing people for something they can't help isn't going to resolve the issue :madge: Ready to see a heated debate happen over assuming someone's gender and taxing them accordingly :toofunny:

When rules #1 & #2 contradict #3...

They could just raise the prices and give Women an 18% "Discount" instead of having men pay an 18% "Premium". This is the idea of someone wanting to stir up drama and attention, not someone who cares about treating people equally. Their mentality isn't "Let's cut Women a break" it's "Let's make Men have it harder" that just pisses people off and will prevent them from going to your business and from adopting your ideas. You aren't going to change someones mind by making them angry, you can only do it by befriending them.

This is literally anti-feminist. What kinda nonsense... this makes feminists like myself look like idiots when all we want is equality :toofunny: such a disaster.

Okay, I consider myself a feminist, and I think this is f.ucked. This is the definition of inequality.

It does nothing to help the cause. It's completely negative. And it gives several groups of people a bad name.

I hate this.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
