n0ne 13,105
What are some artists you discovered or finally checked out this year, whether they are new in the music scene or not? They just need to be new to you. For me it's... Ansel Elgort Spoiler He was already a hot and talented actor, but the 3 singles he released this year (Thief, You Can Count on Me, and All I Think About is You) have been bops. He's a talented singer as well. NAV Spoiler A talented hip-hop producer and rapper who was worked with acts like The Weeknd, Drake, and Travis Scott. I still need to listen to the rest of his debut mixtape, but what I heard (Some Way, Myself, and Good for It) have been electronic based hip-hop bops. Khalid Spoiler A young and talented R&B and soul singer that had his breakout this year. His debut album, American Teen, is a R&B masterpiece. You may know him from hit single, Location or Calvin Harris' song, Rollin. Syd Spoiler She was originally part of the soul band, The Internet (you must checkout their song, Girl ) but released her solo debut album, Fin, this year. It was critically acclaimed and it's not surprising since it's a hip-hop, R&B, and soul concoction of slayage. She's also an out and proud lesbian. LGBT power represent!!! Future Spoiler I used to not really think of Future and kinda brushed him off. But his collabs from 2016 and the songs I've heard from him from 2017 got me interested. He knows how to serve trap bops. A R I Z O N A Spoiler I don't remember how I came about them, but I'm glad I did. They're a talented alternative/indie electropop band whose, debut album, GALLERY, was released this year. Halsey Spoiler I heard of her before but never really paid attention to her. I liked her song with Justin Bieber, I think I saw 1 of her videos from her debut album, and she was the only redeemable part of Closer. But when Now or Never came out, I loved it and bopped to it even though it was Needed Me 2.0. And from there I checked out all the other songs from hopeless fountain kingdom as they were released and then the whole album when it was released. And enjoyed all of it. I think it very interesting that she's biracial, bi-sexual, and bi-polar. COIN Spoiler They were playing at a music festival at the college near me and they sounded fantastic live and I was really digging their music. So shortly after, I checked out their discography and loved their music. They're an indie-pop band with elements of new wave, rock, and electronica. Their debut album, How Will You Know If You Never Try, was released this year. Travis Scott Spoiler I heard of him before but didn't really know of him. My friends did tell me that I would probably love him because they know I love Kid Cudi and they said Travis' style is similar to Cudi's but I never ended up checking him out. Then I checked out the video for goosebumps when it was released and fell in love with the song and video. From there on, I checked out more and more of his songs and videos and loved them. The production of his songs are always polished and fantastic and their so catchy/boppy. And his videos are always sleek and stunning visually. He's a Trap/Rap beast!!! G-Eazy Spoiler Let me start with, he's pretty hot. Anyway, he was another artist I had heard of but didn't really care for. Then I happened upon a song or 2 of his from this year and enjoyed them. For there I gave him more of chance and listened to other songs as he released them and really dug them. He's a pretty entertaining rapper. Alex Aiono Spoiler I had no idea who he was until this year. Apparently he's a famous teeny bopper YouTuber. Anyway, I happened upon the video for Work the Middle and really liked it. I thought he's cute, has a nice voice and dances really great. So I checked out his other songs as they released (Question and Hot2Touch) and they were bops too. He serves some nice dance-pop. Machine Gun Kelly Spoiler Another good looking rapper that I had heard of but was pretty irrelevant to me. Then I heard I heard Trap Paris and really enjoyed it. So I gave him more of a chance and listened to some of his songs. I really like his voice, flow, and altitude/swagger. Dua Lipa Spoiler I think I heard her name once or twice last year but that didn't do anything for me lol. Then somehow I ran into Lost in Your Light and loved it. Then I heard Scared to be Lonely and loved that too. From there I checked out some of her other songs and videos and really enjoyed them. The bitch can really sing and she's also very pretty. Talent and beauty. New Rules is 1 of the best music videos and songs this year. Royal Blood Spoiler I was surfing YouTube and saw the thumbnail from their video for Lights Out. It looked interesting so I watched it and the visuals were amazing. I didn't feel the song fully, but it ended up growing on me and I'm glad it did. I ended up checking out other songs from them as they were released this year and liked majority of them. They are a pretty cool multi-faceted rock duo. Logic Spoiler You probably guessed it; another rapper I heard of but didn't know much about. Then I read something about him making a song about suicide prevention with the actual hotline number as the song title. So I decided to check it out and loved it. Then the music video for Black Spiderman caught popping up on my YouTube, so I finally decided to watch and loved that song too and it's video. I also heard some of his features too enjoyed them too. He's a great rapper, who uses important topics in his music and seems like a smart and nice guy. He's also from my home state and even from the same region as me, so he gets even more bonus points. Marylanders represent!!! Harry Styles Spoiler Of course I knew about him from One Direction and enjoy some of their music but ZAYN was the member I cared about the most and followed. But Harry's career after 1D's split has really surprised me; working the iconic Christopher Nolan and releasing great music that strays pretty far from 1D's music. He's a talented singer with beautiful hair and I'm interested to see what else he does. The Japanese House Spoiler Was on YouTube and glanced at the thumbnail for the video for her song, Saw You in a Dream and it looked interesting, so I decided to check it out. And instantly fell in love with song and video. So when I found about about other songs from her, I listened to and was dazzled. She's talented and unique indie-pop and dream pop artist. Camila Cabello Spoiler Of course I knew her from Fifth Harmony but never really cared for her. I thought she was kinda annoying with her christina aguilera meets mickey mouse voice. And then was left 5H and did that bad song with MGK, she didn't have best impression of her. Then her lead single was released, so I was like let me give this bitch a try and see what she was serving. And I was shook. She served strong visuals, a bop, and vocals in the video. So had a new lease on her and checked out everything else as she released it. I was into everything except Havana. So now her album is on my radar. flor: Spoiler I'm subscribed to Fueled By Ramen's (a rock and alternative/indie record label that represents bands like Panic! at the Disco, Twenty One Pilots, and Paramore) channel on YouTube. And a couple of months of ago I saw I had a video for overbehind, (one the japanese house's songs) in my subscription feed because of Fueled By Ramen. You probably guessed it. I saw the interesting thumbnail and it persuaded me to checkout the video. The video and song slayed me. From then on, when I came into contact with any of their songs, I gave them a listen and loved them. They are a wonderful indie electronica pop-rock band, whose debut album, come out. you're hiding, was released this year. Honorable mentions: Liam Payne, Sir Sly, Niall Horan, Noah Cyrus, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Rita Ora, and Jaden Smith. Moral of the story is YouTube is an awesome way to discover new and great music. "My people… need to let our bitchiness out.
