boyerased 2,886
Feels isn't a hit in my opinion. I barely know people who knows that song. I think Slide was bigger. And no, Katy might have sang the chorus, but her part was the most replaceable one and the most remarkable. Other than that, she underperformed because everyone goes through it. It's not just becuase of a haircut, just that the music wasn't connecting to the public that much. She could always try next time. The world doesn't care for her flopping or whatever. Nobody outside the pop realm care. Gp will use her again if she has a good bop to serve.

They are catastrophic. She basically sold 50k without that tour bundle first week. Witness won't even cross 500k in the US in pure sales, for crying out loud. It's a major flop. The singles, no matter if that lyric video smashed in Brazil, are flops. The sales, the streams, the attention - it all flopped. I don't know if you're joking, but Witness is pulling Glory numbers. Basically, if you call Witness a hit then so were Bionic, Lotus, Britney Jean and Glory. I mean, if you think Witness is a hit then ARTPOP must be a 21-like SMASH

The only "talent" route I see her going down is if she becomes super political and harsh with just a guitar and herself. Unfortunately she doesn't seem intelligent enough for that. Actually intelligence shown in this era has been her downfall. She has presented herself like she was captive in a cult for 30 years and this is her first time speaking to outsiders and witnessing the world. Like she was lobotomized or has electro shock. Bizarre. Yeah, I think she'd love to go acoustic with just a guitar but we've already seen that even her fans aren't the biggest supporters of her more serious stuff and her ballads don't interest the public unless they're part of a mega successful album (and released at the tail end, at that) so I think that idea is out the window. And yes, she doesn't have the intelligence levels needed to pull off a politically charged, philosophical album either. Her behaviour certainly has been odd this era, like you said, it's like she just entered adulthood despite the fact that she's 32. She's been talking about the way she was raised and how there was levels of homophobia and racism presented to her but she didn't realise at the time. I don't know how she's just realising all this now. And what's making it all so bizarre is that she's trying to present adult ideas while simultaneously acting the most childish she's ever acted. When she went on Ellen, you'd think she was a teenager who'd had too much sugar. She seemed way too excited at the prospect of that ticket giveaway at the end. Shouting "you get a ticket, you get a ticket!" while doing a victory dance and making 'receipts' hand gestures was so uncomfortable, even Ellen looked like she didn't know if this was excitement or the start of a mental breakdown. No wonder people still consider Illuminati theories. This entire Katy era has brought to mind phrases like "MK Ultra mind control," "punished for revealing secrets," and "sent to rehab for re-programming." Yelir 573
I'm late to the thread so the topic has probably changed but I don't think there has been a down fall, I just think it's her less popular era. It happens to every long lasting musician. Every. Single. One. Look at gaga during the ARTPOP era. I thought for sure that was it. I think she thought that too. madonna had many "downfalls" during the 90s. cher was doing infomercials. It happens to everyone but it's not about how you fall, it's about how you pick yourself back up.

I think Katy's downfall for this particular area was that she didn't come across as knowledgeable on political topics and looked like she was hopping on the whole Hollywood liberal trend (and we all know katy loves hopping on a trend). My problem with katy has always been that she doesn't seem genuine and only does things to be liked and I think people are finally realizing that I think you're spot on here! Katy and Gaga were both very vocal supporters but the difference is Gaga has a history of being very outspoken and very liberal, so it was almost expected of her to champion Hillary. Katy on the other hand caught people (at least me) off guard. Yeah, I assumed she would support Hillary but it just felt so ingenuine the way she was so loud about HRC. I think it just goes back to their earlier years in the industry. Gaga chose to be political and Katy chose to be commercial, which I think is one of the reasons why her career is stalling at the moment.
