LOVELOUD partially came out of the experiences Dan has had with his very orthodox religious upbringing and the way that this conflicted with his support of the LGBT+ community. "The festival is designed to ignite the relevant and vital conversation of what it means to unconditionally love, understand, accept, and support LGBTQ+ youth in our communities. The organization is committed to creating a community of inclusion. The goal is to create support and resources for those in crisis. LOVELOUD hopes to provide insight into recognizing and helping those in crisis, supplying resources to those wanting to learn more, and imparting guidance on how to more effectively start a conversation with family and friends."
