I swear with Yall dissing Lemonade and Melodrama :saladga:

Honeslty for me it's the majority of the Beatles discography.

I second this :reductive: I love Here Comes the Sun, but other than that I can't stand listening to them.

Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

I'll definitely sign on to the Beatles hate :classy:

Almost like, all music critic publications act like classic rock and rock is the greatest genre of all of time, and the Beatles are progenitors of good music and it pisses me off tbh :deadbanana: I'm sure they were highly highly influential, but I actually also just dislike their voices and a lot of their music :emma:

Hard to take anyone seriously who thinks Ray of Light, the pinnacle of pop music, is overrated. Just another reason I despise young gays, no goddamn respect for quality music. :madge:

But Nevermind is a masterpiece

I'd say Lemonade (still like it tho, but Bey is WAY too overrated)

1989 (only song I like is Bad Blood :poot: )

StrawberryBlond

Beyonce - Lemonade

Taylor Swift - 1989 (most of her work, in general too)

Kanye West - The Life Of Pablo

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly (all his work, basically)

Adele - 21

Frank Ocean - Channel Orange

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

Future - Honest (and every single one of his albums)

Drake - Nothing Was The Same (and mostly all his other stuff, into the bargain)

Bjork - Homogenic (almost all her other releases as well, bar one or two)

Norah Jones - Come Away With Me

Radiohead - OK Computer (all their albums, in addition)

Michael Jackson - Thriller

The Beatles - Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band

All these releases are one of two things - bland and generic or pretentious. Not much more to say.

I just want to say that "I don't personally like something" or "I don't get something" or "Something wasn't made with my tastes in mind" does not equal any kind of objective state of "overrated". General critical consensus is still quite subjective, but there are areas like production, concept/cohesiveness, lyrics, vocals, and the artists character-story-persona, etc. that govern these kinds of critiques.

No one ever said this was about objective fact. Music is, by its very nature, subjective. Every time a thread like this comes up, we can't just get our frustration out happily, someone's got to post something about "your opinion is subjective, you know," or "don't you know that _____ invented this kind of music?" or "_____ is one of the most talented artists who has ever existed." It's policing of free speech and policing taste and it's really tiresome. Things will not change because one person doesn't love one of the most critically acclaimed albums. Thing is, critics are supposed to be about being as objective as possible but so many of them clearly base their opinion of an album on how popular the artist is at the time and what their gender is. The reviews of AP when it was cool to bash Gaga will give you proof of that. Most of those reviews were based around her persona and recent downfall, mentioning precious little of the actual music that they were supposed to be critiquing. Lana also suffered one of the worst cases of sexism in music journalism when she started out that I've ever seen. And I've gone into how they boost up black artists no matter how bad they are (sometimes it seems like there's a law that states that every album by a black rapper has to have good reviews) but I know you won't want to get into that. But trust me, if you really do look into it, you'll find evidence of it. It's all about taking everything that you think you know and turning it on its head. Robert Christgau and Slant Magazine are about the only reviewers left who speak their own minds without outside interference, love them or hate them. Most professional critics are sheep who are terrified of looking like fools in the eyes of the public or other critics. They follow each others opinions instead of forming ones of their own. They give ingenuine praise to a follow-up album if the public like the previous one that they bashed. For specific publications, they're told what to say. And paid-for positive reviews do happen, it's just that there's mega secrecy around it.

This is why I'm fine with being an amateur critic. That way, I can tell it like it is. Nobody's paying me for positive press. I don't care how successful someone is right now or how hot they are or what their background is or how talented they are or how respected they are in the industry or what I'm "expected" to think about their body of work. If they make a bad album, I will not hold back. It's holding back that has allowed artists to take the public for a ride and crank out sub-par albums year after year. It takes serious balls to say that you find an album from a big name to be bad. But I'm more than happy to take up the challenge. It's insulting that to be a professional critic, you have to have some sort of degree in music because that is clearly not what most of them are using in their method of reviewing albums. If they did, they'd be calling out ear-assaulting beats and mumble rappers who can't utter a clear phrase if their life depended on it. How come I, as an amateur, can see these problems but someone with a degree in this stuff mysteriously glides over it?

What does your opinion have to do with the fact that OOTB has 47 on Metacritic making it one of the worst rated pop albums in history :giggle: This thread is about critically acclaimed albums.
