This means that AP is a flop in Gaga standards Reveal hidden contents and stop coming for me 13 minutes ago, BloodyGlory said: Not really ARTPOP is 4 years old. Joanne came out 9 months ago it's your own words the era may have been a mess but the album was a success, people might stop saying that to you once you start saying that too https://goo.gl/xMgMvJ

Was The Fame a flop? No. Its harder to get radio support and top 10 hits later in your career. Britney, Katy, Beyonce, etc can all show this statistically. Applause was still a huge smash hit lead single. Do What U Want would've been bigger except for the Venus situation and lack of video. After that they stopped promoting the album and G.U.Y was more like a gift to fans. ARTPOP sold on par with Miley and Katy's albums, the "competition" during that time. I really don't see how it flopped at all if you adjust it for time and situations. I never said that What you said was "Soldout shows around the world, she toured from LA to Sydney and back. Multiple promotional deals and brand partnerships. Headlined festivals. Covered magazines. Trending everywhere" and I said that it's not because of ARTPOP, but because it's Gaga

The album was Number One because people were interested in the album. Applause was a smash hit on the radio because people wanted to listen to it. Applause and Do What U Want went platinum because people bought and streamed the songs. Dope went Top 10 because people saw it on YouTube and clicked/bought it. Yes, everything Gaga does is successful because she has created a name for herself and promotes her music/product. However, that doesn't matter. The album wasn't a flop. And its still good and people still like it, saying "that's just because its Gaga" is irrelevant. People are interested in Gaga...

Didn't seem like people turned their back on Gaga like they did during ARTPOP. And btw I was talking about the era in general, not the album itself
Edonis 28,950
It's a cute theory but regardless of ARTPOP's commercial performance, she was always set to release a jazz album with Tony Bennett. I guess the only difference would be that ARTPOP would have had a few more singles. That's about it.

I'm sure if she did, people would have the exact same reaction as they did now. They would remember all her huge hits, see how amazing of a performer she is, and take interest in her current work. Its not like Joanne was everyone's favorite album when it came out. The Super Bowl did a lot to maintain and repair Gaga's image, and Coachella extended that.
