I disagree. She was not in a great state of mind back then, both personally and professionally, and this performance came at a perfect time for her. People are still talking about it. 

It was the most watched musical performance of all time. Her voice and looks were flawless. Furthermore, the performance itself appealed to everyone. It was a very smart move. 

People were over her in 2012, and I think that her performing then would have hammered the last nail in the coffin.

I think so. But if she did, her performance will be less impact compared to what actually happened. Since her name is everywhere that time, the GP might choke her out badly.

Perhaps so. Perhaps she even had the whole 2012 show planned and simply used it for the 2017 Super Bowl--the complete lack of ARTPOP and single Joanne song supports this theory...

People don't realise Joanne is just another strategy to restore her image. If she does something ambitious (aka. Controversial) again, her C2C , Joanne efforts would be down the garbage bin. Wait till LG 6 and you'll know how smart that woman is

To do the SB it's more like a tribute act to oneself after they have already made the most of their career. So if she felt like she wasn't ready in 2012 she probably thought she was gonna have many more hits in the later years. That being said if you look at her setlist from her performance this year, other than MR the sames songs would have been performed had she done it in 2012. That being said, it's time to get some new hits gaga. Everyone knows you can sing now, get your fierceness and passion back and show them you can still make great pop hits without being generic. She has it in her, idk why she doesn't use it 😕
