Everyone else, including Katy and Rihanna, holds back songs for weeks so they can get that one big chart week based on pent up demand. To get a #1 in the UK these days is a case of getting radios to play it for a month before it is released to compress all the sales into one week. All sorts of trash gets a #1 that way.
