I've never really paid her any attention either if I'm honest. I used to confuse her for Lorde for some reason

So I guess that does make her underrated :poot:

And these scores indicate generally favorable/positive reviews. Plus she's on par with most of her peers if not better in terms of reception. :whitney:

Other than Gaga, she's the only other pop queen that possesses uniqueness, lyrical talent, and quality. She definitely has influenced the music industry as was stated in the Pitchfork

West Coast was a big hit in France/Italy, it actually was the first time that I heard Lana on a European radio.

I think that if she will release her singles to the radio with a short radio edit, she can have a big success there.. the radios will eat her songs every second.. especially those snob type radios

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

I think she's like a painter. She will be criminally underrated until she dies, which annoys me a lot.

Lana has a huge fanbase and people who listen to her, but those people don't buy music that much. Also Lana is not radio friendly - at least for radio today.

What I think : Lana is overrated. I was glorifying her too in the past, but she doesn't make that amazing music. It's just something about the music what is so captivating, her haunting voice mixed with sadness she carries out.
She's not a huge worker as Madonna, writer as Lorde, huge voice as Gaga,  dancer (lol) as Beyonce,...

No one knows her enough for her to be underrated, her last good piece of work was BTD(paradise) I don't know what she's been doing since then

I think she's overrated. She has a huge fanbase, and one of the best selling alternative albums. She likely won't get very huge due vocals being pretty aweful, and slow mellow songs.

30 years from now, will Lana go as one of the most underrated artist ever? She doesn't have huge fan base, the critics are not big fans of her work, she faced a lot of criticism for her previous work, even though everything from the production to the melodies, and the lyrics are perfect?

Yes, she sucks.

"She doesn't have huge fan base", yet she has somehow managed to enter the TOP 20 of the most streamed female artists list (worldwide), together with the megastars like Beyoncé and Rihanna. So she may not neccesarily have fan base, meaning that people who genuinely enjoy her work and feel very related to her music are not the same people that stan her in internet. I would agree if someone phrased it that way, and I personally have been surprised so many times by how often her discography comes up in the cars of people whom I would never picture listening to her music.

"the critics are not big fans of her work", yet she still has to have a record with a metacritic score of lower than 62 (LUST FOR LIFE, here we come), she has been included in the lists of the best albums of the year and she has been asked to record a track for the film based on one of the most iconic American novels. Not to mention she has nominations for Grammy.

"she faced a lot of criticism for her previous work", by who? Like, I know there are a lot of people who just couldn't digest any of her work after Born to Die, because they claim that Born To Die and Paradise had those hip-hopish songs with rhytm and melodies, while her other albums included mostly melodic slow-ass flow of some mumbling or moaning with neither melody nor the beat to sustain the instruments, and her songs off ULTRAVIOLENCE and HONEYMOON are mostly impossible to sing along to. That is a known fact that such a frustration exists among many of her own fans, etc. But while people may accuse her work of being boring and slow-ass, accusing her of dropping her qiuality standards is silly and immature, for both, ULTRAVIOLENCE and HONEYMOON, rely on the same lyrically centered songwriting and impressionistic nastalgia, are engeneered and mixed well, but belong, oops, to the other dimensions of music, outside the trendy beat hip-hopish movement. even though everything from the production to the melodies, and the lyrics are perfect?

I do not think that she is underrated in any sense. On the contrary, I think that Lana is the musician that she wants to be. She has deliberately chosen the way she is positioning and promoting herself, and she is building her legacy the way she wants, by recording the music, her music, unmistakenly her. The fact that a lot of people don't seem to know her name is perfectly fine, because we have entered the era of new basic principles of information consumption - we are now able, more than ever, to customize the content we recieve ourselves, and the chances are that - if you don't listen to the radio or follow the trends and memes in the web, you will never learn who Halsey is, or Lana is, or Lorde is, for example. Lana seems to be the one who relies on her music more than her pop image, and she has a healthy understanding that a lot of people are going to think that her music sucks, because music is essentially the matter of taste
