Affleck reportedly said, "A man kissing another man is the greatest acting challenge an actor can ever face."

Westworld actress Evan Rachel Wood has criticised comments reportedly made by Ben Affleck while he was shooting 1997’s Chasing Amy.

Affleck kissed male co-star Jason Lewis for a scene in the classic comedy film from writer-director Kevin Smith. During an appearance at an LGBT film festival in Los Angeles over the weekend, Smith recalled the actor’s reaction to the scene at the time.

According to Gay Star News, Smith told the festival audience that Affleck said, “A man kissing another man is the greatest acting challenge an actor can ever face.”

Smith also recalled that Affleck said, “Now, I’m a serious actor,” after shooting the scene.

Reacting to Affleck’s widely-reported comments, Wood tweeted: “Try getting raped in a scene. Also, grow up Ben.”

When a follower tweeted back, “Well, the quote was from 20 years ago so I guess he did grow up,” Wood replied: “I’m sure he just thought it was a funny, but even jokes like that are damaging.”

She added: “Also, you think us ladies like kissing all the guys we kiss? Just cause its a “straight kiss” doesnt mean we enjoy it. Ahem.”

Last year Wood revealed that she is a rape survivor. In the wake of her Affleck criticism, a follower tweeted at her: “Try getting raped in real life. Please investigate **** before you add to false hype. Ben *did* grow up. You should try it.”

She then replied: “Hey. I have been raped and came out with it publicly last year. Maybe you shouldnt throw stones in a glass house.”

It's the most immature **** to bring this up 20 years later.

Where Ben necessarily didn't say anything wrong and he was a teenager then. He's heterosexual and it's far too understandable why he felt the same-sex kiss as a big deal. He was foreign to the concept/feeling.

Around 2015 he even said he wished he'd approached the whole scene and scenario a different way, showing that he's DEFINITELY matured (if there was even any need to) since then.

-quote-

Peers told him that “you were a really great actor if you could convincingly play homosexual as a man," Affleck said. "And I just blew it. The kiss is in there, but it looks like Tom & Jerry. It’s not anything good.

“I tried to go open-mouthed, but something in me was, ‘Take your tongue back.’ And I was like, ‘No, you can do it! Push!’ It was not my proudest moment.”

Now, 20 years later when Ben is a mature and talented actor and has NO problem with the LGBT community, we bring this back up so he can be torn to shreds and under-footed by people of social media with low-comprehension skills.

The ****?

Logic.

Meanwhile, I'm gonna continue to applaud Affleck for his growth as not only and actor but as a man, himself.

Looking forward to his third reprise of Batman in Justice League this November. The uneducated can stay dumb.

I wasn't a direct quote and it was also from 20 years ago. The world is a different place, and Ben has also stood up for LGBT rights before

She can reach for relevance somewhere else, she should've just taken the L when she realized she was wrong.

I don't get it? Why is she coming for him over a comment that was said years ago  Why do people feel the need to come at other people anyway.. what he said was not even wrong. Maybe a tad ignorant, but not mean or damaging in anyway :lana: People need to stop getting so upset about everything and just leave people alone..

I once came for Evan Rachael over a tweet about the live special of Sound of Music and she replied back in and favored my tweet. :whitney:

The article is so misleading. The quote presented is a second-hand story from Kevin Smith about something Ben Affleck maybe said in 1997. Paper Magazine has deleted the tweet with the story, have they deleted the story as well?

It wasn't even homophobic.  Wood seems to just want attention if you want to be perfectly honest.  She's not exactly an A lister.  The last big film she was in was The Wrestler.  I'm sure she didn't enjoy filming any of the teenage sexual scenes in Thirteen.

Why would she even comment on what he said 20 years ago? I loved her in True Blood and Westworld but really don't see the point she is trying to make here. I think Ben and the world has moved forward in the past 20 years and I think if you asked him now he would say that was a stupid thing he said.

Mess, I'm watching her in Westworld right now :ladyhaha:

To do a gay scene in 1997 isn't really an easy feat. If anything he already was way ahead of everyone else when he did it.
