It seems as though the new generation who listens to music via streaming services do not know older artists and classics, they subscribe to a playlist and eat up whatever they are fed. I remember being a kid, my first music experience were with my parents CD's so I would listen to the classics before even hearing current stuff. Now, kid's first experience with music is managed by record label execs who pay spotify to have a song in their hit list. The same thing has been said with radio and MTV. People are gonna listen to whatever they want at the end of the day.

For example I can say the UK trends were 90s; hip-hop with a touch of R&B (and one or two minor house music hits after it was invented and became more popular) 00s: R&B lite but mostly rock/rock-pop 10s: EDM for sure, R&B and hip-hop is creeping back in but the predominant genre is still EDM because dance and house is still huge in the uk plus electro-pop
