pie-kun 1,765
Am I just completely missing the part of these articles where it says any song that is featured on a playlist with 1 million+ followers doesn't get royalties? Because I saw nothing about that in the articles linked in this thread. The articles appear to be mostly talking about jazz and piano playlists and allegations that Spotify is secretly creating fake in-house musicians to make songs to pad out these playlists instead of licensing music from artists. The main point of contention about royalties in the article were allegations that Spotify might be arranging reduced royalty rates for some of the artists in these playlists in order to reduce royalties they are paying to big record companies and giving them better ground for negotiations. If the title of this thread were true, then pretty much no hit song would be getting royalties from Spotify because most, if not all, major hits are featured on popular spotify playlists with millions of followers.
