Gaga Is Too Good For Her Own Material

Bonkers

Even Michael Jackson didn't write his best songs.  Man in the Mirror, for example.  There's just another level of professionalism in the song writing of songs likek that - the chords, the structure, etc.

Confession time: this might come as a shock to you but I would rather listen to Gaga sing covers than her own material.

I'll turn on my location in a moment if you want to fight but just hear me out gays

The majority of pop stars have talent that matches the work they deliver: Madonna, Katheryn Perry, Brinty Spears, Rhenna, and T-Swizzle, to name a few. But Gaga is just not one of those artists. At the risk of sounding like a pretentious little stan, I think her talent vastly outweighs what she delivers most of the time.

Now I'm not saying her material is bad. She's gifted the world with some very well crafted pop over the years, but hardly any of them (with the exception of maybe Bad Romance and a few others) have been able to capture her fullest potential imo and it kind of frustrates me.

Joanne was cute and The Cure is great to bop to on the way to the grocery store but I'm left with a case of musical blue balls. I feel like Gaga at the beginning of John Wayne rn: I just need her to go a little "fasTER!"

Let me just add that this is not me "missing the old Gaga" or "wishing CrazyGa came back" or hating on Joanne because it's not radio pop. I'm not saying any of that. What I'm saying is that watching Gaga sing about tapping down her boots while she beats around is like watching Leonardo Da Vinci draw stick figures or Beethoven compose a jingle for McDonalds.

The Gaga performances I end up watching over and over and over again are pretty much always her covers. Her rendition of "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" is just one of many examples. It takes my breath away every single time.

When I watch it I'm ELATED: I get goosebumps, my heart skips three beats, and my constipation clears up, because I know I'm watching a legend. I've just never had that same feeling when watching her sing one of her own songs.

Idk, maybe it's just me. I'd love to hear what you all think.

Honestly, I couldn't agree more. I thought I was alone.

She has a couple of tracks that really hit there, Bad Romance, Marry the Night, Dance in the Dark, You and I and Government Hooker for example, but for the most part her full talent is wasted.

The Cure and Telephone being the best example of her underselling material.

Spoiler

P.S. why haven't I seen this gif before.

I honestly would love Gaga to come up with something like How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful by Florence + the Machine. Just the perfect balance of beautiful songs (HBHBHB, Queen of Peace) and more radio-friendly, yet strong songs (What Kind of Man, Delilah). Such an album would also be a great follow-up of Joanne, just imagine Gaga with a big orchestra :diane:

I 100% agree.

Look at all the amazing performances she's given us in the last few years that hasn't been her own music. She's been jaw dropping amazing!

I respectfully disagree whole-heartedly, though I also enjoy her covers.

I just overall enjoy her voice with whatever she is singing. It's her voice that does it for me lol

And also I love pop music and think she makes exquisite pop music.
