Gaga Going To Release B-Sides After Joanne?

I remember this happening and thinking how this was a GENIUS move by Frank - in short, in order to fulfill his obligation to UMG, he released Endless (a ~45m visual album) and then shortly afterwards released Blonde under his own name - this OBVI ticked off the music industry oligarchs and UMG placed a ban on all exclusive releases since they were so badly duped.

Do you think Gaga was planning to do this with Joanne considering the announcement of new music? Would Joanne have been her "contract" record while whatever is coming up next was to be an album released independently? We know from @Gypsy18's experience that Gaga has wanted to release a B-side album with tracks from TF TFM BTW and ARTPOP - could the B-side tracks be what's in store for us this month?!

[Side note - the Joanne reference in @Gypsy18's experience recounting the snipped of "Paradise" is interesting retrospectively..I wonder if it showed up anywhere on Joanne]

ANYWAYS, just some thoughts as I was reading through some articles about Gaga + her recording contract!

Lady Gaga began voicing support of Apple Music before the service even launched last year. It's also notable that she has filmed an Apple Music commercial out of the blue and also she has changed her profile on Apple Music prior to changing it on the other streaming services and John Wayne was also an Apple Music exclusive. In addition, around the release of Joanne she also had a Beats 1 interview so it's kind of obvious to me that she favors the streaming platform. 

However she said on the Beats 1 interview:

 “I told my label that if they signed those contracts with Apple Music & Tidal, I’d leak all my own new music,” Lady Gaga told Zane Lowe on Beats 1, which is ironically Apple Music’s radio service.

It's confirmed she has expressed that she wants to release a B-side or volume of B-side albums with unreleased material from past eras, it's confirmed that there was an exclusive deal with Apple Music, it's confirmed that Joanne was not the original concept for LG5, etc.

I think the preponderance of evidence tilts toward my argument more

Honestly, part of me wishes Interscope called her "bluff"

Yeah but I think that she scrapped the game original concept because she began to work with Mark Ronson and realized that his process fulfills her needs more than the producers she's worked with in the past. 

When it came to working with Gaga, Ronson said he "didn't really know what she wanted to do." On their second day in the studio, they wrote the album's title track. "I was like, '****, I really love this,'" he remembered. "So we started following that direction — it was never contrived, like, 'we're gonna make this honest album.' That's what kept coming out. When BloodPop came in, it got a lot better. He took what we were doing, which was maybe a little, not retro, but very live-music-recorded, and started to chop the **** out of it."

I actually think there is no EP and there won't be no EP

I just feel she might do what most artists are doing now which is release stand alone singles and eventually include them as deluxe tracks in her upcoming album 

but who knows maybe she always intened to do an EP after Joanne 

EDIT: oh wait, you were talking of a possible EP right after the release of Joanne last year?  I don't think she had plans for anything like that tbh

Agreed!! I think Joanne is DEF an album she wanted to make. But that doesn't mean she wasn't planning any subsequent releases to Joanne based on the recording contract loophole exploited by Frank Ocean - honestly if anyone would do something like he did it's Gaga considering her history with record labels

I'm pretty sure most of those ideas have been scrapped for various reasons, but I don't think that's the reason why.  

She just really wanted to make that kind of an album after having a session with Mark and they kind of went from there. 

As for an EP...well, we'd have to see about that.

Not necessarily RIGHT after like Frank did, but simply to give Interscope Joanne which is obviously great but not TFM.

So what if her plan the whole time was to give Joanne to Interscope to fulfill her contractual obligations and was planning to release an EP or something afterwards under an independent label so she retains 100% control and profit. But then UMG cut off the negotiations for her Apple Music exclusive and she had to push back the release to now?

I don't think so, after the ARTPOP drama she really surrounded herself with people she trusts and love and I don't think she would have an indipendent release "without" Interscope's support

Right, agreed! I'm not talking about what went into recording Joanne or why she recorded Joanne per se - what I'm talking about is the business decisions that go into the release of Joanne and how it relates to the new material that we're getting soon considering the fact that it's 100% confirmed that we're getting new material, and considering all of the other facts listed above (i.e., Gaga's exclusive music deal that fell thru bc Frank Ocean found a loophole in recording contracts, Gaga saying she wants to release B-Side material in the future, etc.)
