Can someone explain to me how acting is creative? You are essentially portraying somebody else's (the writer's) creative output. actors get the chance to be expressive but I don't see how its creative. Improv is creative for instance because you have to come up with ideas about how to react to situations. (Ive taken acting classes before so im not a stranger to acting. Ive never found it to be a creative experience). Have you ever done a full musical? A full play? The whole process is creative! The same play can be completely different, depending on the direction the director and actors take it in. A good director will use the actors instincts on a character, and the actor pulls inspiration from the director and the other actors, as well. I've seen the same play or musical, with the same lyrics and words, presented in completely different ways...where they end up being very different from one another. Yes, the writer has written the words, but the creative process comes from the interpretation, collaborations and the delivery of those words. Maybe someone like @djBuffoon could explain better. I mean, you are taking a character from the written page, and the goal is to create a living, breathing, human being. The assumption is you have something in common with the character, otherwise why would you be cast? But what makes it creative is interpreting text, and making it believable that you are having these thoughts, right there, in that moment. And doing it while simultaneously remaining compelling to watch. To be 100% fair, the true art of acting comes to the forefront in theatre, where you asked to do the same thing over and over and over again, while keeping it truthful and spontaneous for months on end. For me, that is the most creative part.
dit 46,488
As if and if she does give us new music it will probably end up just being performed live and not given to us in recorded form (which is fine I suppose). When is the Dive Bar date she is performing?

Well actually maybe its more the skill of being able to visualize a situation that is not really there and creativity can come into play if you are using your imagination. I'd say it's a combination of creativity and skill. The creativity comes in when you are using your imagination to act under circumstances which you, the actor, might not possibly understand: portraying a profession that you've never studied, portraying a terminal illness, playing a wizard, etc. And the skill is the finesse with which you combine all of the elements as the "moment" (screen or stage) calls for it: behaving as a character who probably walks, speaks, and operates differently from you, while also acting under imaginary circumstances. It is a lot of work, and the goal is to make it look effortless
