I like the second paragraph of your post. I'm with you on it. I think The Cure is a guinea pig in a way, it seems they use it to test different options with radio/streaming/no traditional promo approach.

Exactly. And I really learned to appreciate the music she's putting out instead of defending her when comprisons are being made. It is what it is. And she's still great.
