loathereality 26,372
from 70s to 00s there were tons of divas rocking out the radio but nowadays the market is : Athletic male stars overrated rappers cute young female chicks (i guess started with kesha) dj s with populistic features (guetta...) -here we have beyonce (believe it or not) a powerful vocal, a diva which makes her appealing to older generations and she has strong producers presenting good beats and sex appeal which makes her appealing to younger generations. -also her media direction is really smart: no career killer mistakes, decent family and love affair, loving mother, indepent woman image, why would she gather hate anyway - i think her only rival in terms of media is lady gaga cuz gaga looks and is much smarter, has great songs and visuals, also an independent woman yet, her past extravagance gathered love as much as dislike. Also we do like her versatility in music but i think it seems a bit inconsistent to gp. On the other hand beyonce approaches her music with perfect amount of consistency and variety, literally the perfect balance. -i do not find her unique in the sense that she repeats what was popular 20 years ago but she is very different in today's music. Ziggy 11,755
Easy (to explain). First and foremost, it wouldn't work if she wasn't one of the single greatest vocalists and performers of this generation. Hands down, she's one of the best. After that, she's also stunningly beautiful. I'd say those are the most important elements to her success. what Beyoncé did was after 4 "underperformed" (not really), her management team shifted from marketing her album by album, essentially from marketing her based on her work to marketing *her*. They aren't marketing albums or concerts anymore, they're marketing Beyoncé. That's a stark shift from the way it's done for most businesses but is so successful because of the way the music industry is right now. While everyone is trying to find a way to profit off of music, Beyoncé's label stopped trying and profited off of her as an entity. The visual albums really helped with this because then the music became secondary or just another component. It went from being the forefront of marketing efforts to just being another part of it, a soundtrack in a lot of ways. Why hasn't she had a number 1 in years? Because they probably don't give a flying **** about it tbh What they're selling now is Beyoncé, her glamorous lifestyle, her beauty, etc. From BEYONCÉ to Lemonade they have a **** ton of visuals to mine from for products and merchandise and imagery to pull from for performances. And since there's so much of it, like I said, the music is really not that important anymore because it's shifted to being about *her*. I mean, they've banked off of her pregnancy which would have been big regardless but after the salacious Lemonade era of infidelity and imperfection, we see the perfect family starting again. I'll bet you that Bey and Jay had been wanting more kids and took advantage of this opportunity to make her pregnancy into one even bigger than Princess Charlotte's. Sorry for digressing a bit. The important thing is the shift of marketing for her. That, and that the product their pushing is something everyone wants. Beyoncé is incredibly talented, fit, beautiful, "ethnic" but familiar, the music is great, the visuals are great. What takes it over the top is that it's all about her so what they're doing is creating this fervent obsession with her as opposed to the music or visuals. It's more lucrative to market this way because very few artists have the basic requirements to do it. The Kardashians try and are very successful, but at the end of the day, they don't hold a candle to Beyoncé because she delivers *everything*. I honestly think Gaga could do this if she had wanted to, but TFM would have been the era to do it with because the music was the best (not my opinion, I'm saying look at the reception), it was a short album, people still were intrigued by her, and she was at her visual prime. She still could pull it off, but I don't think she wants to because of how much attention it puts on her. We know she's super private.

LordGa 257
Beyonce doesn't really speak out as much as Gaga, she doesn't offend many people. And she became really debatable for a lot when rumors about cheating happened. I also think she is what you call a universal beauty, unlike Gaga still beautiful actually very beautiful but the unconventional kind and Gaga doesn't care if she looks ugly unlike Beyonce who always looks like a sexy Goddess in all her videos.
