The lawmaker, Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-New York, received an email with the subject line: "One down, 216 to go…," according to a screenshot of the email provided by Tenney's office. The body of the email read: "Do you NOT expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Even though I personally disagreed with Scalise on a multitude of political and moral issues, it doesn't make it right to politicize violence against him. Not to mention, the safety of our elected officials. If you want them to look at gun laws, speak with the people that elected them. I'm sorry but if you think 'speaking with people' will solve the problem you haven't paying close attention. Yes, it is a horrific accident, and yes, it is insensitive to politicize it, but no one said there was ever going to be a non-brutal way to change this. Do you think anything other than this will wake them up? While I understand with the general sentiment, the last part really isn't true. The majority of voters have supported common sense gun laws on and off for decades now.
