Melodrama Leaking Party

I'm not sure how to feel after my first full listen. Prior to its release/leak, I had only heard Green Light and Liability. I'm a casual fan of her's.

Green Light seems to be the obvious choice for the first and lead single. It has a different vibe than most of the record. I really enjoyed Homemade Dynamite - altogether a solid track. Hard Feelings / Loveless - an excellent double track, with Hard Feelings being the superior. The last four songs are the standout tracks to me - I love Writer In the Dark. Supercut is very catchy! Perfect Places also has such a cool vibe to it and makes for an excellent closer.

Any idea why there are such long instrumental / interludes after many of the songs? The Louvre goes quiet with about half volume around 28 seconds to go... Liability has 14 seconds of quiet. Loveless about 15 seconds, Melodrama about the same. Supercut half a minute, and the Reprise also 10 seconds?

Melodrama / Sober II has the almost exact same vocal progression and chord progression as Obsessions by Marina & the Diamonds, specifically the first verse.

This is my favourite album since Born This Way. Absolutely INCREDIBLE work. Not a bad song on it, no fillers. Take notes every other pop girl out there

Literally. When I finished listening, it was cemented as one of the all time greats along with Born This Way :tony::tony::tony:

So good, the placement of the songs is perfect and there isn't one filler on there! It's nice and concise, her writing and the production are so good. Lorde out here showing pop girls how it's done

Thoughts:

1. Green Light - Perfect lead single, as it opens the album and is just an overall anthem. The piano before the chorus has changed my life, tbh.

2. Sober - I've loved this song ever since her first performance. And the bridge is to DIE for.

3. Homemade Dynamite - Her deep voice at the beginning... the rasp  The performances of this were nice, but the polished studio version is flawless. Such a cool track, and can we talk about the cute explosion she makes with her mouth?

4. The Louvre - I reeeeally dig the guitar and synth used in this track. I also love the choice of not going with an explosive chorus like it's always easy to do. It's very chill. And that outro... :toofunny:

5. Liability - :madge: Underrated :madge: People **** on this song, and I don't know why. It's a very nice ballad and quite sad. The fast way she sings half the second verse has me bald, too. :icega: Only complaint is that the song is too short, but I can deal.

6. Hard Feelings/Loveless - Blew. Me. Away. I went in with Knew Better/Forever Boy expectations (least favorite song from Dangerous Woman), but they were very much exceeded. I LOVE THE WAY SHE SAYS "LOOOOOVE" AND THE SCREAM/MOAN AFTERWARDS. Omggggg, and the instrumental interlude thing she uses before closing out Hard Feelings is SIICCCKKK. By the time Loveless came around, I was already deceased, and then she had to start it with "What is this tape? This is my favorite tape." because our Lorde and savior knew she had created the album of the millennium. :sharon: And then that BEAT that comes in... This song has my highest praises. Hard Feelings/Loveless, a summary: She did THAT. :firega:

7. Sober II (Melodrama) - Also loved this one ever since the first performance. Really digging the second half of the song where she goes hard. :rockstar: P.S. Are those snippets of the Green Light instrumental in the outro!?

8. Writer In The Dark - The deep voice at the beginning of this one is already sickening, and then she goes HIIIIIGGGGHHHH on that chorus. Higher than I've ever heard her go! It slayed me to my core :selena:

9. Supercut - I had to pause this one as soon as I started it because I KNEW it was going to be a bop. After finishing the song, I can now officially nominate this to be the next single. Make it happen. The beat gives me 80s space disco vibes, and I can't TAKE it. And the refrain halfway through... The way she screams à la John Wayne and then goes back into the beat... :bye:

10. Liability (Reprise) - I was really surprised by this one. I was expecting a continuation of Liability with its depressing piano, but it totally wasn't. Love the electronic harmonies going on. The way she says "But you're not what you thought you were" is OR-GAS-MIC. :lana:

11. Perfect Places - I was mad at myself for listening to this one before the whole album because I wanted to end it with a song I'd never heard, but oh well. Great song, and a total banger to end the album. Love how intense it is, and then the last lines are simple piano.

Overall thoughts - With this album, Lorde has definitely demonstrated growth from her freshman album. This era is much more colorful in comparison to Pure Heroine, and it translates to the music. However, she hasn't done a cop-out and produced a generic album full of mindless pop music; it's still very Lorde (and I love it).

Lorde has THE best beats and instrumentals; I knew it from Pure Heroine, and Melodrama continues to support that fact. You can really hear the amount of effort she puts into each track.

It's been said time and time again, but gotta say it again. Melodrama deserves little MeloGrammys :giggle::giggle::giggle:

I really like some songs but really dislike others. Hard Feelings/Loveless is probably my favourite. Sober is good too.

Writer in the Dark isn't too bad lyrically but her voice/vocals really ruin it for me

I enjoy this album more than PH because its got more bops however I think PH is the better quality album.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
