socotra 3,356
ARTPOP is my favorite album of Gaga's, let me start by saying that. The fact that an album chock full of bops failed to achieve its full commercial (and, frankly, critical) potential in Gaga's home market bugs the hell out of me. That being said, I think there were a couple of creative mistakes in the making of ARTPOP that bogged it down. So here's this hypothetical: Gaga doesn't release Marry the Night as a 5th single from Born This Way. That era, thus, is effectively over around November 2011. Instead, in June 2012, she releases The Auras (and I think a name change alone would have helped "ARTPOP"): The Auras (June 2012) 1. ARTPOP 2. Venus 3. Aura (Burqa demo version) 4. Mary Jane Holland 5. Sex Dreams (Demo version) 6. MANiCURE (Swinefest version) 7. Jewels N' Drugs 8. Fashion (Daft Punk-esque demo version) 9. Brooklyn Nights 10. Do What U Want (no R. Kelly) 11. G.U.Y. 12. Applause 13. Princess Die 14. Gypsy SINGLES 1. Do What U Want 2. Applause 3. Fashion 4. Aura 5. Gypsy Following the release of this more original version of ARTPOP, Gaga breaks her hip in 2013 and proceeds to release Joanne was an EP in 2015. Joanne (May 2015) 1. Diamond Heart 2. A-YO 3. Joanne 4. Dancin' in Circles 5. John Wayne 6. Perfect Illusion 7. Million Reasons 8. Sinner's Prayer 9. Just Another Day Singles 1. A-YO 2. Million Reasons 3. Perfect Illusion Given the switches in release time and presentation of materials... do ARTPOP and Joanne perform better commercially?
Slovakialop 2,258
"The Auras" is such an awful title
REALITY 78,190
First, I don't think the name "The Auras" would have made the album perform any better. And while I do love the tracklist, I think it'd have to be (mostly) dependent on things like promo and the ability to have at least a few GP friendly songs so that people are first intrigued by the album—though, I think ARTPOP did have a few options. Second, I don't know, mabe it's just me, but I feel weird when you say "Gaga breaks her hip in 2013, and proceeds to release Joanne as an EP in 2015". It just sounds like you're saying it so nonchalantly Lastly, I feel like Joanne isn't the kind of album to just be an EP. Joanne is very much different from any of Gaga's previous albums, both conceptually (or rather, the lack of a solid concept—as Gaga puts it) and sonically. I feel like Joanne would have needed it's own era. It stands on it's own, and Gaga seems to be very proud of it (not here for the "but where's the promo" jokes ). berlinforme 5,362
ARTPOP would perform better, I think Joanne would be a bit too early soundwise in 2015.
Lady Palutena 3,147
I don't think anything could have helped ARTPOP. Neither the public nor the media were here for her and it was an awful time in her life. She was facing a lot of behind-the-scenes drama. And on an unrelated note, I'm sick of people crediting the disco and funk sound as "Daft Punkish". Adoremus in caelum, Palutena. Dea luminis.

BadJudas 409
i really think Gaga, if she thought at this...Should make Joanne in 2012/2013 after her hips injury...It could be a...Logical choice i think...after this sad moment, she want to do a intimate album and take space from the BTW OverbookingGa xD (sorry for my bad english...) HOTNebraskaGuy 19,547
I think if ARTPOP as a whole was released earlier ala late 2012 or early 2013 she would've received much better reviews. One, five, ten lay a million on me

Antichrist 9,818
pretty sure whatever she'd release instead of ARTPOP would 'flop' (that sacred ****ing word i swear) because it was her time to be the scapegoat for pop music, SADLY
LordEnigma 11,313
The Auras would have made the album perform worse tbh
