Quark 7,098
o<(0_0)>o Many people here are constantly saying "why are you on the Katy hate bandwagon?", "Nobody deserves to go through another ARTPOP era". The problem is that unlike Gaga, Katy does deserve the criticism she gets. And no, this is not just blind hate, many here and the GP are simply not liking what Katy is releasing or doing. And Others are genuinely offended by her appropriations of cultures. Appropriations which are very obvious as she is clueless about the so called woke pop she is supposed to be promoting with this album. The irony. Evan Peters 10,743
just gonna copy + paste my comment from the 'twitter comes for katy perry' thread --- ya'll really need to stop bringing Gaga and the ARTPOP era into this when it's not even the same GP reaction. People are mocking katy because she's acting cringey/try-hard. she's attached some obnoxious persona to herself this era in an attempt at (what i think) is trying to appeal to more people and it's failing simply because she's just so embarrassing. People mocked Gaga because of her dedication to the meaning of ARTPOP along with her being in an extremely dark place throughout the entire era along with overlaying problems that happened throughout the era (troy leaving, applause leaking, general messiness). You seriously can't sit here and act like people were making fun of gaga because she was being cringey, people were tearing her to shreds just to tear her to shreds. Not saying Katy can't be going through some issues, but to sit here and state that her persona (that sprung up as soon as she got those haircuts every 2 weeks) has always been there is laughable. The **** that people are saying about her a majority of the time should be taken as a joke since that's how she's been treating her career these last few months. I swear. i am so sick of you people dragging gaga into this **** to try and make yourself look superior to people laughing at katy plagerism make a fool outta herself in an attempt to get the GP to buy her music. Next. Yes. Gaga was mocked for supposedly being "too artsy", or "too extreme" but isn't that what artists are supposed to do? Katy on the other hand.... dit 46,473
Agree. Can't sing, can't dance, no stage presence, will do anything for a hit or money etc.. why be an artist? Go do something else. Also she is not the nicest person around. She shaded Britney's mental breakdown 4 times, made a lot of odd racial comments in the past, appropriated cultures in a mocking kind of way, shaded Mariah Carey, shaded Miley Cyrus (though they seem to be friends after Miley clocked her swiftly), is a mean girl backstage (allegedly), shaded Gaga multiple times in the past (from 2013 on wards though she's been nice to Gaga..I wonder why?) etc.. This era is truly bringing to light all the bad and ugly things that make up Katy Perry. She needs to re evaluate her life and career after the Witness era. She needs a bit of humbling. Dorothy Gale 7,575
I can't feel that bad for her seeing as how she doesn't have much talent compared to other artists who have gone through much worse flops. I'm not going to support outright hate, but she's done so many dumb things this era, like mocking Britney's breakdown, collaborating with Migos and more. Nicole 1,809
Agree. Whether you're a fan or not a fan, you should be able to recognise when something your fave does it not okay. Whether it's mocking a fellow artists' breakdown, making racial comments or appropriating another culture. These aren't things that are debatable or excusable and it doesn't mean that you have to stop being a fan or force yourself to hate the music, it just asks you to be conscious of why some of the things she does is offensive to certain parts of society, and call her out when she (or any other artist for that matter, including Gaga) steps out of line. Next. Preach. It's been really frustrating when people bring her down for not achieving sales expectations, their personal musical expectations or whatever they wanted her to do. Especially because Gaga's always been nice, she never badmouths people or does offensive things to others. She makes mistakes, but it's not like she ignites confrontations or likes to talk badly about others.
River 117,037
Everyone deserves the criticism, it's just the way you criticize them that can be wrong. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
chiuga 1,970
she deserves a lot more criticism tbh. Also criticisms aren't necessary a bad thing. it actually is a chance for an artist to prove their potential and ability.

To her critics, she was trying too hard with both the lyrics and video of "Applause." She was trying too hard with the "Swine" performance in which she was puked on. Most didn't even see it as performance art, just a mess. She was trying too hard by working with all of those other artists (Koons, Abromavic...). It had nothing to do with her seeming too "dedicated" or anything like that. People just thought she was playing at being some sort of serious artist without actually doing anything of artistic merit. The critics were doing way too much then to Gaga, and I feel the same way about how people are reacting to Katy.
