heygirl 842
ALL of gaga's music and her artistry as a whole (outfits etc.) manages to break the norm and to be ahead of the time. She started of with Just Dance and changed radio to that sort of pop (she continued this with TFM). Then came BTW which had a much more rock sound than what the gp was used to, all throughout the album. ARTPOP - this one speaks for itself. With good promo this album would've gone down the history books and im so PISSED she will never get the glory she deserves with it.. Then Joanne, which sounds nothing like what's on the radio or any other new music in general. be kind guys
Luxe Ford 3,481
Ottomh (off the top of my head) I'd say Swine. Don't think time has gotten there yet. And *don't* mention EDM! It might be new in the U.S. but Europe has been raving for decades. #bitchneedtovent: just because something doesn't sound like anything else at the time doesn't make it ahead of its time. Semantics, darlings! What happens in Luxe Ford stays in Luxe Ford

The Child 18,997
All of you guys who are saying BTW, ARTPOP & Joanne are clearly delusional. Those albums aren't ahead of their time like at all. DWUW did not start this but the sound became more popular mainstream after this. And mind you Taylor Swift openly said she listened to and liked ARTPOP and no, Drake's Goin Home does NOT have that bass I am sorry, but this is literally fan delusion.... Style is NOT an r'n'b song, it does NOT feature a legendary r'n'b' artist, it's not even a duet... the only remote similarity is that it has a similar tempo, as do thousands of other songs. And again, DWYW is an r'n'b throwback, hence the R Kelly involvement. If anything, DWYW is a bit outdated because it came out too soon after the r'n'b trend in the late 90's early 2000's to be considered retro or something. And speaking ARTPOP, the beginning of the title song sounds exactly like a Selena Gomez song, so following your logic, Selena was ahead of her time... although I don't think that a few notes make anyone ahead of anyone's time, including Gaga. ristretto 883
i can't with everyone saying ARTPOP was/is ahead of its time? i CAN'T? ARTPOP sounded dated the second it got released because EDM was literally dying, she produced and recorded most tracks 2012 when EDM was a thing but ARTPOP sounded cheap as a Q4 release in 2013... there are a few tracks on ARTPOP that sounded fresh back then and still do, but a vast majority were and still sound dated. if we're gonna talk about songs being ahead of their time, please be kind and bring up tracks like SHICD, Paparazzi (she wrote it in 2006!!! c'mon), Heavy Metal Lover, Black Jesus and Bloody Mary. ahead of its time does not equal a good or experimental song. bye! Feline 621
If we are talking about sound I'd say ARTPOP (the song), Aura and Government hooker (kinda). Scheisse too.
anomdepllume 393
I kinda gotta agree that when ARTPOP was conceived it was ahead of its time, but by the time it was publicly released, it definitely didn't feel as revolutionary, especially the latter half (I've still never heard a song like Venus, I'll give you that one though.) As a cohesive unit, ARTPOP isn't uniformly futuristic for me. I still jam to it though, I really do love it, I promise Honest to God, I think my vote is Dance in the Dark. There's something so classic yet so futuristic and weird about it. It's another one of those things, I've never heard another song like it.
