The future of pop music: No more female artists?

It should not be about the gender. I won't dislike the music just because it's from another gender. That would be kinda sexist in fact. However, what I can say is that I don't like the type of music that straight men like to make as of right now.

To put it bluntly, the pop girls can't string together a cohesive, bold pop era to save their souls anymore.

:toofunny:

They've all become so transparent, lazy and boring.

I'm holding out hope for Lorde's album.

Sounds like such an epic album.

I love how its a concept album too like old-Gaga.

I've heard Melodrama, Sober and Homemade Dynamite, and they're are fire.

I have complete faith.

Why would they though? They could make a Thriller-level masterpiece and it would fail to top the charts. Meanwhile, Justin Biber writes a cute little chorus for a remix and it skyrockets to #1 at the charts. Music is not longer worth it. Imagine putting all your hard work and passion into a peice of art, and when u realese ut, everyone ignores it.

Was Cheap Thrills the last number one song by a woman? And even that has a male feature. If you're not a woman collaborating with a man or Adele, getting a #1 song is nearly impossible nowadays. Why didn't The Cure go straight to #1 like SOY or TWIL. Are Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran just making better music than everyone else? No way, Joanne is better than anything they've ever put out, but of course Gaga is a gay icon, so she's never going to reach the mainstream heterosexual males.

The Cure is a stand alone third single with the only formal promo coming from a music festival 99.999999 per cent of the people don't follow in any way.

SOY and TWILI were debut singles from top tier artists, who had highly successful eras in the one before this one. Their debut singles had all the expected promo spots and radio deals.

Two entirely different situations.

True, but in general the general population doesn't know when an artist drops a lead single or whether or not a song is a lead. Ed and Bruno just have more overall interest in their musical output than Gaga, and most pop females it seems.

Radio is going to give a debut single more attention, especially from a top tier artist. Also, there is a buzz that is created when an artist is coming back after a break. That first single has all the opportunities.

Yeah, radio is a big factor, but Ed Sheeran's views on YouTube blew up before he even went into power rotation.

Buzz around a return. Catchy song. Well established artist who is hot right now.

And men can? Pop culture is boring as a whole. I'm done with this sexism. It's a cop out to say that women just aren't good enough to get hits nowadays.

I have very little hope for the future of music now that streaming has turned music into fast food.

sis this is the tea. Artists selling an album right after another, single after single, just to keep thier Spotify relevant and their name at the top:giveup: spotify playlists giving you bunch of new artists that all sound like boring trap music, smh

Pop music has died yet again :-(

Not even ten years after Gaga saved it the first time.

um.. except it is true? i listen to male and female artists but there is this certain disdain with liking powerful female artists. nobody likes strong female pop star anymore, while strong male artists still have huge demand.

my take is guys are probably intimidated by a powerful woman figure (seeing now there's a serious opposition to feminism by guys) and girls are just following the guys, and there's also this trend where liking what guys like are what considered as 'cool' nowadays to girls. so yeah :saladga:

Interesting thoughts. I'd like to see some social research done on this topic to see if it's all true or what not...
